FEBRUARY 28, 1935 – NOVEMBER 11, 2025
Born in Houston on February 28, 1935, George passed from this life on November 11, 2025, resting peacefully as he journeyed home to Heaven. He will be fondly remembered for his warm promise to friends and family: “Meet you at the gate!”
In high school, George participated in track, basketball, baseball, and the bowling club before graduating from Stephen F. Austin in 1953. He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Ann, in 1955. In 1958, he graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was a veteran of the Army and Reserves, serving as infantry captain until 1969. He worked for Southwestern Bell for over 30 years before retiring in 1992.
He loved a good round of golf, but his lifelong passion was fishing—and everyone knew he was the best! In addition to raising three daughters, he was a faithful church member and served as the music director for many years.
He devoted himself to studying the Bible, and the book of John was especially dear to him—particularly John 3:16, which he cherished as a beautiful summary of God’s love and the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.
George was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Ann Pyland.
He is survived by his daughters Diann LaCagnina and her husband David, Susan Rast and her husband Mike, and Lisa Childs and her husband, Matt. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mitchell, Kyle, Travis, Justin, Kathleen, Lauren, Trevor, and Jordan, and 6 great-grandchildren.
