George spent the majority of his life in Newport News, Virginia, a place he proudly called home. He dedicated 42 years of hard work and craftsmanship as a welder at the Newport News Shipyard, where his strong work ethic and skill were well known and respected. He spent the past year in Texas to be with family.
He shared 48 loving years of marriage with the love of his life, Lee. Their life together was filled with simple joys—especially fishing side by side, spending time with their beloved dogs, and Gizmo. George found his greatest happiness in quiet moments, loyalty, and the comfort of family and home.
George will be remembered as a devoted husband, a hardworking provider, and a man who valued love, commitment, and the pleasures of everyday life. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lee; his parents, Earl and Francis Wood; and his grandson, Officer Jeffery Richardson.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Jan Wood; his children, Lesley Tilghman and husband Laurence, Allan Richardson and wife Anna, Joe Baker and wife Malissa, and Lisa Richardson; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Joe Richardson, Ashley Haley, Katherine Hale, Zachary Newcomb, Carmen Gatewood, Joey Baker, Nicole Maldonado, Austin Richardson, Logan Richardson, and Steven Baker. And many, many wonderful great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Zoeller Funeral Home, located at 615 Landa St, New Braunfels, Texas, 78130. The service is scheduled for January 4, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
