George Jefferson Van Kleef

George Jefferson Van Kleef passed peacefully to the Lord on September 13, 2026. Born April 14, 1934, at Ft Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Attended Jefferson High School in San Antonio. Graduated from Southwest Texas Teachers College (now known as “Texas State”) where he met his lifelong partner and wife, Virgie, of 72 years. He was known as “Jeff” and affectionately called “Paco” by his grandchildren and family.

Jeff built a long and successful career in sales, including 20 years with the Carborundum Company, where he specialized in abrasive products and their applications throughout Texas before serving as a regional sales manager across several states. After retiring from Carborundum, his enterprising spirit led him to a second career as a business owner and salesman with Otto Dukes Machinery Company in San Antonio, where he worked for 30 years. He also invested in commercial properties and proudly served as a landlord to several businesses in New Braunfels and San Marcos.

Jeff and Virgie lived in New Braunfels for over fifty years. During that time, he was a member of the New Braunfels Parks Board for twenty years, member of the Elks Club, and a devoted member of New Braunfels St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Jeff enjoyed fishing trips with his friends to Rockport, and fishing with the grandkids. Jeff was an avid golfer, enjoying many golfing-related travels with his wife Virgie, friends, and extended family.

Above all, Jeff loved people, especially his wife, Virgie, and their family. He never met a stranger and had a gift for making people feel comfortable enough to share their life stories with him. As the family grew, he cherished gatherings and time spent together. Most memorably, he served as Virgie’s primary caregiver as she faced memory difficulties, remaining wholly devoted to her care and well-being around the clock.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Virgie Nell Van Kleef; his daughter, Susan Gayle Johnson, and her husband, William Scott Johnson; and his son, Mark Alan Van Kleef, and his wife, Maria Lia Mercedes Acosta.

Grandchildren; Rachael Jones (husband Clay), Autumn Stehling (husband Stephen), Vaness Hellinger (husband Mark), Mose Van Kleef (wife Annie), Gretchen Van KLeef, Colton Finch (wife Josie), & Sandy Suazo.

Great grandchildren; Gunnar, Ford, Savannah, Tate, Sawyer, Oren, Otto, Oden, Myron, Iris, Reza, Jael, Mikey, Carson, Ale, Luciano.

Great, great grandchildren; Bri, and Issac.

Jeff was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Finch, and her husband Shawn.

A Graveside Service will be held at the outdoor chapel located in the San Marcos City Cemetery, 1001 Ranch Road 12, San Marcos, TX on Monday September 28, 2026, at 11:00 am.

There will be a Celebration of Life following the service, from 12-2pm, at Texas Bean & Brew Located at 1328 N Interstate 35, San Marcos, TX 78666
