Gerrod Breck Eppler left this earthly life at his home in New Braunfels, on February 7, 2011, at 36 years of age. Gerrod was born in New Braunfels on March 15, 1974. He grew up in Austin, where he was baptized in the University Avenue Church of Christ. Gerrod graduated from Westlake High School, and attended Abilene Christian University and Austin Community College. In Austin, he worked as a security guard.
Gerrod is survived by his parents, Gaynell and Glendon Eppler of New Braunfels. Also surviving is his brother Eric Eppler and wife Lisa and niece Brooke of Austin. Gerrod also has many cousins, uncles and aunts.
Gerrod loved sports, and dreamed of playing basketball. He was always sentimental about holidays and special occasions like birthdays. He carefully chose special cards and presents for such occasions. Although he had a disability, he could perform complex math problems in his head and could answer almost any type of statistical question about basketball and football and teams and players involved in those sports. You wanted Gerrod to be on your team when playing trivia games.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2011, in the Chapel of the University Avenue Church of Christ. The building is on the corner of MLK Boulevard and University Avenue near downtown Austin.
The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in Gerrod’s honor to one of the following: University Avenue Church of Christ (Austin); Church of Christ of New Braunfels; or Epilepsy Foundation.
