Gladys Marie Sahm Way arrived at her heavenly destination on December 9, 2018 at the age of 89. There to greet her were her parents, Ralph and Mildred Sahm and her beloved husband, Bill. Left to mourn her departure are her six nieces and nephews and their spouses, Nancy (David) Swan, William (Marni) Dunn, Michael Dunn, Patrick (Diane) Dunn, Kathleen (Gregory) Galloway, Frederick Dunn, as well as numerous great nieces, nephews and friends.
Gladys was born in Pampa, Texas on June 6, 1929, known to some as “G Day”. As a young child she spent countless happy hours at her grandparents’ farm where she became quite an animal lover. This love lasted a lifetime. Many rescued dogs and cats had the good fortune of being adopted and spoiled by Gladys and her husband, Bill.
Gladys and her parents moved to San Antonio where she attended Incarnate Word High School (“Oh those green uniforms”). After graduation while at a dance, she met a tall, lanky guy named William Way. They started dating and two years later tied the knot on March 25, 1950. They were married 63 years before his death in 2013.
Despite their busy careers, she in banking at the original Jefferson State Bank and he has a professor at San Antonio College. They always had time for their nieces and nephews. Individual outings, group activities and babysitting were just some of the ways they involved themselves in their lives. Laughing was the key ingredient in everything.
Upon retiring they moved to New Braunfels and immersed themselves in the community and made many more friends. They continued to be an example of giving and fun. Gladys will be sorely missed, but always thought of with a laugh and a smile.
We wish to thank all of the wonderful staff at Rio Terra and Babbet with Dignity Hospice for their excellent care and love. God blessed her through all of them.
