Harold Gene Fraunhofer

Harold Gene “Hal” Fraunhofer, 89, of New Braunfels, Texas passed away at home on Friday, June 12, 2026. He was the husband of Joyce Claire Couve Fraunhofer. They shared almost 70 years of marriage together.

Harold was born on March 20, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois to parents, Harold Charles and Carolyn B. Fraunhofer. He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Couve, on August 25, 1956. After college, they moved to San Antonio, Texas.

Graduating from MIT with a degree in Metallurgy, Hal went on to become CEO of K.O. Steel Castings Company in San Antonio. He had a successful career leading the company to be voted best in the USA.

Hal’s passion was fishing. From fishing with his grandfather at the young age of 3 years to world travels with friends and family, fishing was always at the forefront of his free time. He also enjoyed reading and consumed his favorite thrillers at a rapid rate. Family and friends will always remember his big personality. He was loyal, generous, and committed to being the best in all ways.

Hal is survived by his spouse, Joyce Couve Fraunhofer and 3 children, Cynthia Fraunhofer Rum, Steven Fraunhofer (Jean), and Peter Fraunhofer (Laura). He was also a loving grandfather to Westley Fraunhofer (Virginia), Corey Fraunhofer, Zachary Fraunhofer, and Samantha Fraunhofer as well as his great grandchildren Finley, Francis, and Farron Fraunhofer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Carolyn Fraunhofer and sister Marjory Fraunhofer Haedge.

A memorial service will be held on June 19, 2026 at 10:00 am at Zoeller Funeral Home (615 Landa Street, New Braunfels, Texas 78130) with a reception to follow from 11:00am to 12:30pm. Interment will be at Hill Country Memorial Gardens (11700 State Highway 46 West, New Braunfels, Texas 78132) at 1:00pm. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to the time of service. A reception will be held at Zoeller Funeral Home following interment.
