Sonny is survived by his wife, Sandy, his children Sam Schlameus and partner, Leslie Woods, Beth Schlameus and husband, Dave Pearson, Lauren Ramzinsky and husband, Tommy Ramzinsky, his brother, Lloyd Schlameus and wife, Judith Seagroves, niece Amber Schlameus and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He grew up between New Braunfels, Texas and the family ranch he loved in San Marcos, Texas. When his family moved to San Antonio his sophomore year of high school he excelled on the basketball court and was a member of the 1959 Northeast (Mac Arthur) High School State Championship Team. Sonny continued playing basketball throughout college at San Antonio Community College and Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas where he earned a degree in Business.
Sonny married Sandy Meyer of New Braunfels in April 1962. Throughout his career with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company they lived in Texas, New Orleans and Tennessee, returning to New Braunfels in 1975 to raise their family. Sonny and Sandy’s home was always open to cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, often supporting, raising and helping anyone in need.
After retiring from Goodyear, Sonny continued work in the tire business for TCI putting his skills as a consummate relationship builder to use, as he never met a stranger.
Sonny was an avid supporter of Texas State Athletics, often seen courtside cheering on the basketball team or tailgating and keeping stats for the Bobcat baseball team. His loyalty to the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Cowboys mirrored his love of hunting Texas white tail deer and spending time prepping, hunting and fellowship at the family ranch in San Marcos, Texas.
Funeral Services will be held at Zoeller Funeral Home in New Braunfels, TX at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, October 4, 2023 with a reception to follow at Freiheit Country Store.
