Hugh Leroy Talbott, age 101 passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. Hugh Leroy Talbott was born to Cread Astol Talbott and Lulu Shotwell on February 13, 1923, in Gainesville, Texas. Hugh had two brothers, Marvin and Raymond, and a sister Velma. Hugh attended Gainesville High School. Hugh served in World War II with the U. S. Army Air Corps. Hugh continued his military service with the newly formed U. S. Air Force where he served in the Korea Conflict and Vietnam. For his service to his country he received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal (APCM), World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, (AFLSA), Air And Space Outstanding Unit Award (AFOUA), Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal (NDSM), Korean Defense Service Medal (KDS) and many more.
He met the love of his life, Della Mae Enders at a U.S.O. dance in 1946. They were married on April 25, 1948, in New Braunfels, TX. Hugh was a flight engineer in the U.S. Air Force for 26 years, so the family of 7, four girls and one boy were stationed in many parts of the U.S. over the years: Tampa, Fl., Savannah, GA., and Honolulu, HI.
The family moved back to New Braunfels in 1970. Hugh and Della served their community through the VFW and American legion.
Hugh was preceded in death by his wife, Della Mae, of 66 years in January 2015, his son Robert in May of 1988, his brother Marvin and sister Velma.
Hugh Talbott is survived by his brother Raymond and his daughters, Elizabeth Allen, Kathryn Smith, Janice Pelt, Judith Kerlick, and seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
A public visitation for Hugh will be held Sunday, February 9, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa St, New Braunfels, Texas 78130 with the funeral service on Monday, February 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM. A burial will occur on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park, 2951 TX Hwy 46, New Braunfels, Texas 78130.
