

Sergeant Jacinto “Jack” Gomez, 76, died peacefully in his hometown of New Braunfels, TX. on April 4, 2017 after battling complications of cancer. A distinguished veteran of the War in Vietnam and assigned to the First Cavalry Division, Jack also participated in the Tet Offensive’s “Battle of Hue” and was awarded the prestigious Bronze Star for his valiant efforts.
Sgt. Jack Gomez was born on September 11, 1941 in New Braunfels, TX to Julian C. Gomez and Manuela Villarreal Gomez. In 1962 he joined the United States ARMY and served with the utmost Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage until his passionate devotion to his beloved Army ended in 1991
Jack was a brave and loving soldier, husband, father, and grandfather who was well known for his gregarious and forthright personality, unyielding faith, endless network of military peers, vivid war stories, and frequent desire to “pop open a can of jungle juice.” He married the love of his life, Dolores Castilleja Gomez in April 5, 1959, A natural socialite and man of virtue, Jack worked in the moving business for many years and often served as a loyal volunteer at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help church and local VFW.
Jack Gomez is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Ann, Sonia, and Becky; his sons, Robert, Carlos, Chris, and Adrian; his 22 grandchildren; and his 35 great-grandchildren. His son, Gabriel and his great-grandson, Austyn, precede him in death.
Public visitation will take place at Zoeller’s Funeral Home on Monday April 17th beginning at 5:00 PM with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:00 AM Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Our Lady of Perpetual Catholic Church with Reverend Camillo Botello, M.S.F. - Celebrant. A Committal with full military honors will take place at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery immediately following.
