He is survived by his wife Frieda Mosier, son and daughter-in-law Dennis & Cindy Mosier, two grandchildren, Alysa Mosier & Lacy Trevino (Michael), and one great grandchild, Michael James Trevino.
He lost his parents at a young age and grew up at Protestant Orphan’s Home in San Antonio. He remembered waking at five AM to light the boiler so there would be heat in the orphanage. He also worked in the laundry. He remembered the children working the vegetable farm, 13 cows, a few pigs and 200 chickens. Eggs were everywhere. He left the orphanage and joined the Air Force. They asked him what he wanted to do in the Air Force. He told them he wanted to be a photographer. The Colonel said they didn’t need any of those but they needed mechanics. James said he didn’t know anything about that. The Colonel said that wasn’t a problem, they would teach him. James retired from the Air Force after 24 years. He served during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.
In 1961, at Skyview Baptist Church, in Austin, Texas, James became a Christian. This changed his life. He became a Gideon and served for many years. For over 20 years, he was Chaplain at Kirkwood Manor. Kirkwood recently recognized James as volunteer of the year. He became a Master Gardener and used these skills to help feed seventy families. The Comal Master Gardeners recognized James as an Emeritus member. James was always willing to help those who asked, from driving someone to a doctor appointment to chain sawing down a tree which had fallen. James was Chaplain of the VFW here in New Braunfels and he owned and operated a business for sixteen years.
He will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched. A Public Visitation will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Zoeller Funeral Home. Funeral Services will take place Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. at Oakwood Baptist Church, followed by a procession to Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery for a Graveside Service with Military Honors at 11:15.
