Janet was born on October 28, 1946, in Kent, England, United Kingdom to Charles and Ellen Nash. Completion of high school was followed by a 2 year secretarial course at Southeast London Day College. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1972 with her husband John Reeves and was granted U.S. citizenship the same year. After living in New York City for several years, she moved to Houston, Texas. She worked for the Alief I.S.D. in the Houston area for 18 years in various capacities including secretarial duties to the Liberal Arts Department, as an Art Aide, and Cafeteria Manager. After John passed away, she moved to Canyon Lake where she worked for Comal I.S.D. for a number of years until she retired from there in 2010.
Janet is survived by her husband of five years, David Wilson of Canyon Lake; her son, Graeme Reeves and his wife Wendy, and their three children Gemma, Daxton, and Aeden of Los Angeles, CA; four stepsons, David Reeves and his wife Jill of Brighton, England, Steven Reeves and his wife Helen of London, England; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren in England; David T. Wilson and his wife Laura and their three children, Hannah, Walker, and Ian of Pearland, TX; and Erik Wilson and his wife Michelle and their daughter Astrid of San Antonio, TX; her sister, Jill Rowsell of Kent, England; and her brother Martin Nash and his wife and family of Marion, IA. She was at the center of a wide-spread, loving family.
Janet was an eager and enthusiastic community volunteer with an unselfish, fun-loving, and caring nature. She was a member of the Texas Master Naturalists and the Native Plant Society of Texas, both of which are dedicated to promoting the conservation of our State’s natural resources through education, outreach, and example. Volunteer work for these organizations gave her the opportunity to do something meaningful for the natural world, which was a life-long love and source of inspiration for her.
Four years ago, Janet became a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, an organization dedicated to addressing hunger and isolation of senior citizens. Several weeks after beginning her volunteer service, she began to affectionately calling several people on her route “her girls.” Beyond taking them their meals, she would take “her girls” to doctor appointments, grocery shopping, to the hair dresser, or out for lunch. She also served on the board of directors for the Community Resource and Recreation Center (CRRC) for three years. During her tenure on the board, Janet volunteered for every event that the CRRC sponsored. In addition, Janet did volunteer work at the Tye Preston Memorial Library at the used bookstore and was a “Reader Weeder,” individuals who help maintain the landscape around the library. Whenever she had time, she would also volunteer to work at the Guadalupe River State Park. Janet was an avid fan of English premier league soccer. She belonged to kayaking, hiking, bird watching, and bowling groups and loved playing Mahjong and Bunco.
Our community has lost not only a tireless volunteer, but a friend to everyone she met.
A memorial service and reception will be held for Janet on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 10:30am at the Tye Preston Memorial Library Event Center in Canyon Lake.
