Janie Gail Anderson Pryor, age 73, passed into the arms of our loving Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 21, 2025 after her 20-month battle with metastasized breast cancer. She was born on July 12, 1951 to Howard Lawrence Anderson and Emogene Morgan.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Michael J. Pryor, a daughter, Maggie Alysse Pryor (Will Jackson) of Midland, TX, two stepdaughters, Angela M. Pryor Anders and Emily M. Pryor Leber (Mark), both of Austin, TX. She is also survived by her brother, Randal S. Anderson (Judy) of Nederland, TX, her sister Cindy Rhea Anderson Brittain (Rusty) of Port Neches, TX, her brother-in-law, Jack W. Pryor (Denise) of Lumberton, TX and sister-in-law Patti Pryor Boose (David) of Round Rock, TX, four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides being married, Janie and Mike were each other’s best friend. They met each other in 1967 when she was 15 and he was 16. They dated throughout high school until Mike’s unplanned relocation to Washington, D.C. in 1970. After a 15-year interruption, they reunited, and it was as if nothing had ever changed. Their three-way bond with Jesus Christ at the center of their relationship was strong and enduring. The love they shared with each other showed in everything they did. If one was hurting, the other was hurting as well. If one was happy, the same for the other. The Lord was always the center of the relationship.
Janie and Mike loved vacationing in Barbados and had made annual vacations there over the previous 15 years. They loved being in each other’s company.
Janie had a heart of gold that was apparent in her thoughts and deeds. She led Mike to Christ while they were dating in high school. She did what Christ wants us all to do.
Mike always saw Janie as his high school sweetheart. He said every time he looked at her, he saw the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. She was so talented in her ability with sewing and creating artwork. She designed their home from the ground up and oversaw the construction, making weekly trips from Corpus Christi to New Braunfels while Mike was travelling for work.
Janie loved spending time with her daughter and being a mother. She made matching outfits by hand for every holiday, took Maggie to ballet practices, and could animate the voices of characters in a storybook for her like no one else. She sang like an angel in the choir and the car and was always finding ways to make Dad laugh. She cultivated a unique sense of style and had impeccable taste; our Lady in Red. Maggie always felt loved by her Mama, Janie supported her dreams and encouraged her to explore. They maintained a happy closeness in adult years, visiting often and talking about the many colors and textures of life. Mom lit up every room with her radiant smile and bright, kind eyes.
Her spirit is with Jesus now and her pain is gone. Praise be to God!
A graveside funeral service will be at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park on June 3, 2025 at 10:00 am.
