Jay Matthew Reavis was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Jimmy M. Reavis and Judy J. Reavis on July 22, 1960. He arrived quite dramatically in the back of the car on the way to Wilford Hall Hospital. The family lived all over the world, like many military families, living in Australia and the Philippines. He always said his love of rice and noodles probably came from his time living in the Philippines Islands. He attended high school and graduated from Samuel Clemens High School in Schertz, Texas in 1978. Jay was super handy and loved tinkering with cars and taking things apart. He rebuilt an old Chevy truck in high school at 14 before he could even drive it to school. He was a member of the FFA and raised chickens. He attended Tyler Junior College for an undergraduate degree in optometry and graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Business in 1987. He worked full-time to put himself through school. He married Melissa Robinson in 1985 in Houston, Texas. He worked as an Optometrist for over 50 years, both running his own Optometry office in Houston and working in a small office in Universal City. He made his own glasses designs and also designed specialty contact lenses. He had a great eye for what frames looked good on you.
Jay loved fishing, water skiing, and taking friends out on the lake.
He loved a good trip to the coast to enjoy fishing and the beach. He was the first one to load up the cooler with beer and invite everyone along. He would usually order the Captain's platter with every kind of fried seafood on it. Jay loved to go dancing and clubbing and go to concerts to hear what he called Dinosaur Rock.
His pride and joy were his two daughters Tessa and Jessica. He was very proud of the women they have become. They were his world. Then he became a Poppa and was a wonderful grandfather to three beautiful granddaughters.
Jay was a good friend and could always be counted on to help in an emergency and was quite handy. He helped several groups of friends flip homes by doing minor plumbing, electrical and woodworking.
Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Judy Reavis, and his ex-wife and lifetime good friend, Melissa Robinson.
Jay is survived by his children, Tessa Reavis Alterman and Aaron Alterman, and Jessica Reavis Clark. His sister, Virginia Reavis Tintera and John J. Tintera and brother Gary Reavis. Grandchildren Ayla Alterman, Cecilia Clark and Julia Clark. Nieces Laura Tintera Griffin and Emma Griffin, and Amy Tintera. Nephews John Tintera, Scott Tintera, and James Tintera. Grandnephews Daniel Griffin and Lincoln Tintera, and Great nieces Sydney Brashears and Evelyn Tintera.
