Jimmy attended Breckenridge schools and entered the Army in 1962 where he served 4 years in the 101st Airborne Division. After finishing the military he returned to Breckenridge where he met and married his love Brenda Toliver. Jimmy graduated from Hardin Simmons University and later obtained his masters degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State. Jimmy’s love for children lead him to serve in public school education for 30 years. When Jimmy retired, he and his wife moved to New Braunfels.
His parents, two brothers and three sisters preceded Jimmy in death. His wife of 53 years and two children, Lisa Collins and Ryan Collins both of Austin, TX, survive him. Jimmy was also survived by his two brothers Kenneth Collins (wife Janice) and Jerry Collins (wife Kathy), along with many nieces and nephews.
Jimmy was a dedicated husband and treasured his children and embraced every moment with them. Jimmy will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Hope Hospice for their compassion and support during the past month and special thanks to Madison Lowry, MD for his loving and attentive care for many years.
Memorial services will take place Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 2PM at Zoeller Funeral Home 615 Landa St, New Braunfels, Texas 78130. A private family burial will take place at a later time.
