Joan Long was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world at the age of 75 on June 13, 2022, with her closest family by her side. She was very loved and will be missed greatly.
Joan was born to Robert and Margaret Cook on July 31, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from Highlands High School in 1964. She lived in San Antonio most of her life, but moved to Canyon Lake, Texas with her husband Dave, whom she married in 2008.
Joan is survived by her husband Dave Long, her brother Bobby Cook (wife Lynda), her three daughters, Carolyn Cantu (husband Aaron), Julie Blackwood, and Becky Blackwood, stepchildren Chris Long, Matthew Long, Nathen Long, and Lindsey Swinford, and grandchildren Corey, Brandon, Kaylee, Rogue, Raymond, Brittany, Colton, Christine, Phillip, Cailan, and Bella. She was preceded in death by her parents and her nephew, Matthew Cook, who loved his Aunt Joan tremendously. (We’re pretty sure the two of them are once again planning shenanigans!)
Joan had an exceptional work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit. She owned several small businesses throughout her life including The Plant People, which she owned with her best friend, Cindy Green, and Gourmet Gifts where she practiced one of her passions – cooking. Joan was a master in the kitchen and was known for her homestyle comfort food. She loved the coast, cruises, flowers, her Chardonnay, her deer, and her family.
She loved to laugh and joke around and was often described as “wild and crazy”! She had a wonderful sense of humor, and even in her final days had the family cracking up. People were drawn to her liveliness, humor, and tenacity and she has left lasting, happy thoughts to all that knew her.
Her lifelong request for when she passed was “to get stuffed and placed on the mantel”. The family has deemed this request impractical, thus we will have a Celebration of Life on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 6:30pm at the Cantu residence. We invite anyone who knew her to attend and help us honor and remember her wonderful life.
“You can shed tears that she is gone, or you can smile because she has lived!”
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ZoellerFuneralHm.com for the Long family.
