Joel Hernandes Equinones, 75, passed away, Wednesday, July 1, 2026 in New Braunfels, Texas surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Odessa, Texas to Guillermo Equinones and Josephine Hernandes Equinones August 7, 1950.
Joel lived an amazing and full life, beginning his journey by completing his radiologic technology training in Dallas, Texas. Afterward, he spent his years living beautifully in California, where he cultivated a vibrant social circle and was blessed with many wonderful friends. He dedicated his career to helping others, working faithfully as a hospital X-ray technician until his well-earned retirement. Joel was truly passionate about his hobbies; he loved to travel, play golf, and hit the ski slopes in Tahoe alongside his close-knit group of friends. Whether he was enjoying the outdoors or relaxing to the smooth sounds of jazz and the timeless beauty of classical music, Joel embraced every moment surrounded by the people and passions he loved.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Guillermo; brother, Jody; first wife Esther Equinones. Joel is survived by his wife, Wanda Equinones; sisters, Crus Jaeckle and husband Henry; Eloisa Rosales; and Lupe Perkins; stepchildren, Joel Gamboa and wife Prissy; and Amanda Gonzales; step grandchildren, Aarron and Ally Gamboa; and several nieces and nephews.
Public Visitation will begin 10:00 am Thursday at Zoeller Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will follow beginning at 11:00 am Thursday, July 9, 2026. The service will conclude at the funeral home.
