I remember in school of infantry when things would get tough, John always had a way to make everyone smile. I am honored to call him my friend and hero.

As Memorial Day approaches, we remember the sacrifice of good men like John.  Our freedom comes with a price and we owe them more than we can ever repay.  Lord, make us truly grateful and may we be worthy.

I served with John before we split units and he was by far one of the Marines that I believed was there to be a warrior and serve this country honorably through and through. I was in Israel with my platoon when I found out he was killed and not a day goes by that I don't remember him and push myself to serve and lead like he did from the beginning. He was truly one of the few, and I will ensure that he will NEVER be forgotten, but always honored in the way he deserves.

His memorial scholarship fund helped me pay for my first year of college, but his sacrifice pays for our freedom. Thank you John Farias. Your memory lives on through all that remember you and many who never knew you.

I wish I could carry the pain in your hearts for you, for if I could, I would take it, so you would not have to endure it. I am so grateful to have had the privilege of working with John at Canyon High School.  He was truly a remarkable young man. I know he will be remembered by all who knew him for his wonderful attitute about life and the care he showed for others.
As I told my wife in my years as a school teacher and administrator, I have come across only a few students who will always be rembered and John was at the top of the list.
John was not only a good Marine but was an outstanding young man.

He came by to visit last year, all dressed up in his best marine dress, I extended my hand to shake his as he left and he grabbed me and gave me what he called a "man hug". I remember John from the days when he was a student at Frazier Elementary School.  I remember he was always a good, very likable young man.

Shortly after John deployed, I was told by a mutual friend (RS) that he had deployed and to keep him in my prayers.  Although we work at different schools, this friend and I keep in touch because she has a son serving in the Army who is deployed for the first time right now, and I have a son in the USMC who is now in his third deployment (1st time to Iraq, 2nd and 3rd deployment to Afghanistan).  He has a year to go in Afghanistan, and I pray hard for him and all of the brave service men and women who sacrifice so much to protect our nation.

The day my friend (RS) told me about John, I began including him in my prayers.  I prayed for him every day, but my prayers will for him will not stop.  My prayers now will be of thanksgiving for having known him, and having had the knowledge that he grew into such a fine, brave young man.

Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Farias for having raised this young boy I remember into the man he became.  You have so much to be proud of in John.

The war is over for John, as God has called him home to His side.

I want to express my sympathy to your family on the loss of your handsome son, John. As a Marine mom, who spent many nights on my knees,I wish there were some way to comfort you, I truly do. Felix and Penny, theres no words that can express the feeling of the loss of your son, my best friend. John and I had one of the greatest frienships that one could ask for. we helped and comforted eachother in bootcamp everytime we missed home and we motivated eachother everyday. we were both squad leaders in bootcamp. he was the 2nd squad leader and i was the 3rd. it was an honor to march beside your son. we spent every weekend together in SOI and ive missed him everyday since the corps split us up. im going to make a trip through texas on my way home when i get out of the marines and i'd like to visit you guys if thats ok. He was one of the Best men ive ever known. Hes watching over us all. standing guard at heavens gates until i come and relieve him of his duty.

  
Your son, our Hero! 
I thank your son for his service to our country. Freedom is not free, we hear it all the time. I thank John for his dedication and bravery. I know it is difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, but looking back in memory may help comfort you tomorrow. My son says that Marines welcome each other at the Pearly Gates in to Heaven. He said they stand guard to wait for their brothers.

I wish I had the right words to say at this time, but I know there are none.  I grieve for the loss of your beloved son and I know that I cannot fathom the pain you must be feeling.  Your son will not be forgotten and what he did to help protect our homeland and our freedoms.  It was his life that made him a Hero.  It was his noble path that made him an American Hero.  It was his ultimate sacrifice that made him a Fallen Hero.  May God carry him to Heaven on His precious wings and give him a palace to live in.  I pray that our Heavenly Father above will grace you with His love, His comfort and His peace.  Heaven's Gates now has a new handsome Marine standing guard.  Amen.

Felix and Penny, please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. John was only three years older than my oldest son, and I can't begin to imagine what it would feel like to lose him. From the way you spoke of John and the phone conversations you had with him while riding the van, it was easy to see just how much you loved him and how proud you were of him. I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with this, but I hope you will find comfort knowing that God has already welcomed John into His arms.

I more than many of your friends know what you are going through in the loss of your beloved son.   I still cry everyday after the loss of my son in 2008.   Please understand that emotionally I cannot attend another funeral of a Son lost too soon however know that my heart is breaking for you and my prayers are with you and your family in your bereavement.

To John's family and friends, it is with a heavy heart that I note the passing of such a fine young man. The Lord will surely greet him. Although I did not know him, He has many brothers here and there, and all will welcome him on that last day. God Bless you and hold you close to His heart at this sad time.

I had the privilege to meet John (and several of the other Marines of 1/5 Bravo Co, 3rd Plt) at Camp Pendelton before the deployment.  John was my son's best buddy in the platoon. It didn't take me long to understand why Chris and John had developed a close friendship. What a fine young man he was. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.  My prayers go to the Farias family at this most difficult time.
