Col. John A. Tengler (Ret.)

Col John A Tengler (Ret), 91, of New Braunfels, TX, passed away on October 30, 2025.

John led a remarkable life filled with dedication and service to our country. He served honorably in the US Army, achieving the rank of COL during his distinguished military career. He received numerous awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, National Defense Medal and Army General Staff for his exceptional contributions to our nation’s defense.

John was a dedicated patriot who served in the Vietnam War displaying unwavering courage and commitment. He was deeply respected by his fellow service members and will be remembered for his knowledge and expertise throughout his career that led him to becoming a proud member of the elite 82nd Airborne and the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Nuclear Chemical-Biological-Radiological Division.

John was born to Alfred and Catherine Tengler in San Antonio, TX, September 1934. He attended Central Catholic High School, St. Mary’s University and later receiving his master’s from the University of Missouri-Rolla. He married Michael Ann in December 1956 in San Antonio, TX. He was a member of St’s Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.

John is preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Catherine Tengler, son John T. Tengler.

John is survived by his devoted wife, of 68 years, Michael Ann, sons Alan, Andy (Debbie), daughters Mary (Gary) and Ann, 15 Grandchildren; Austin, Travis, Kyle, Kelli, Casey, Michael, Zackary, Morgan, Samantha, Alexis, Lucas, Corbett, Logan, Bailey and Bryson; 12 great-Grandchildren.

A Visitation for John will be held Monday, November 24, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa St, New Braunfels, Texas 78130. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM. The Graveside Service will occur Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78209.
