Mom
My Mom was a generous, confident, beautiful lady. She card deeply for friends and family and would always put the needs of others before her own. She was loving, caring and compassionate. Mom had a strong faith in God.
Lilly was born in Beeville, Texas to Thomas and Pauline Word. She was the youngest of three children. My Uncle Tommy is the oldest and my Aunt Martha is the Middle. My Mom attended school at Sherwood School and Canyon High School. She told me about living at the Doeppenschmidt ranch and always being near grandpa as he worked the ranch. She had a special dog and pet deer. Grandma could always prepare a meal at a moments notice when company arrived. Mom could do this also and continued using many of my grandma’s favorite recipes. 
Mom married my dad, Ferdinand and we lived on Merriweather St. and Commerce St. in New Braunfels. Mom and Dad enjoyed bowling weekly with friends at Mission Valley Bowling Alley. I fondly remember our summer vacations to Rockport with grandma and grandpa, Aunt Martha, Uncle George and my cousins. We enjoyed fishing and swimming. We also enjoyed going on camping trips with friends. I especially enjoyed the time that grandma and grandpa lived with us.
Mom married Alton Schuetz and we lived on Hollyhock St. in New Braunfels. Ma and Pa loved to travel. I especially remember our trip to Hawaii, which is Mom’s favorite place in the world, and our cruise to the Bahamas. They also enjoyed going to Las Vegas with Dorothy and Willie Acker. Al and my Mom opened, Rainbow Daycare, in New Braunfels. Ma, Pa and I went on hunting trips. They would play cards in the blind while hunting. Al would always get the deer and I never understood why. Al passed away peacefully in his sleep while on a trip to Rockport with Mom, Aunt Martha and Uncle George.
After Al’s death, Mom spent a lot of time with friends. They got together and enjoyed life. In 1989 I married Karen. My Mom was so happy because she finally had the daughter she always wanted. Jordan was born in 1991. Jordan meant the world to Mom; she was her pride and joy. Karen, Jordan and I moved to Denver, Colorado in 1996. Mom came up to visit as often as she could because it was her second favorite place on Earth.
While we were living in Colorado, she started dating, Robert Lee Saur. They came to visit us several times and we put them to work; helping lay the yard, build fence and deck our new home. They married in 1998 and moved from New Braunfels to Pop’s ranch in Bergheim in 1999. They enjoyed traveling in their RV throughout the United States and Canada. They cherished their trip to Canada, while visiting, Louis and Sandy Saur. Mom and Pop especially enjoyed their trip to Alaska with Lou and Lydia Schaefer. During this trip they visited Canada on the way up and back Karen, Jordan and I moved back to Texas in 2000 to also live on the ranch. In 2006 we all moved to San Antonio.
Throughout her life, Mom helped so many; from grandma, to Dorothy, to Clara, to Shirley, fight their battles with cancer. We were shocked that when on September 10, 2009, Mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately, when she was diagnosed, it had already spread into the liver in stage IV status. She chose to undergo chemotherapy treatments to fight the cancer. She battled hard, through sickness, weakness and not having the capability to maintain the life she knew. This made it difficult for all of us, including her friends and family, who missed spending time with her. Throughout her treatment, Pop, stayed with her during every hospital visit. He would not leave her side. The last month and a half was spent at Gulf States LTAC in New Braunfels. We were hoping the rehab could bring her home, but the cancer won. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at 12:10 am on Tuesday, April 13, 2010. I owe my heart and soul to Pop for everything that he did for Mom. I am also grateful for all of the family and friends that came to see Mom and supported us during this difficult time.
Your goal was to see Jordan graduate and Jordan says, “You will have the best seat in the house.” You never asked why God gave you this disease, but only that he used you to help strengthen the faith of others. We had a special moment with you in your final days, which certainly affirmed our faith in God. We miss you, we love you. Thank you for always being there. You will always be in our hearts. Thank you for being my Mom, Mother-in-law and Nomie.

The Day God Took You Home
God looked around His garden and saw an empty place.
He then looked down upon His Earth and saw your loving face.
God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be; so He put His arms around you and whispered, “Come to Me.”
He then wrapped His arms around you and lifted you to rest,
God’s garden must be beautiful because he takes the best.
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone, 
For a part of us went with you, the day God took you home.

Loving Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of Lilly Mae, born in Beeville, Texas, January 28, 1949 her very own birthday.

Infant child held in the loving arms of her parents, Pauline and Perry Word, big brother Tommy and big sister, Martha Ann, thankful prayers could be heard.

Lovable grandbaby to John Thomas and Hugh Zella Word and Edwin and Lula Kruse, happy and joyful with the blessed gift from God, that’s the way it should be.

Laughter could be heard when she was around, she enjoyed fishing, but not baiting the hook, a worm could be found.

Young children, Bimbo, Bozo and Tiger Lilly played ball, Sherwood Elementary and graduate of Canyon High School, memories to recall.

Moments that become years with her only son, Glen, daughter-in-law, Karen, became part of the family with the addition of granddaughter Jordan.

Always caring for others, was an important part of her life, she married Robert Lee Saur, January 23, 1998 his beloved wife.

Energetic and hard working and lots of patience she cared for all, especially any young child in her home and then she owned the “Rainbow Day Care Center” a lot of children with her attention so mild.

Songs of Elvis, her favorite, “Love Me Tender” and telling scary stories would bring on smiles, trips to Rockport, traveling in the RV, cruising, Hawaii and Alaska; remembering all the miles.

All games she loved to play, especially Yahtzee, and watching movies with Jordan, bowling and dancing, “Nomie” attended all of Jordan’s band activities and all the family holidays, Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Understanding and reading God’s Holy Word and to worship, with prayers lifted, Christ dwelled in your heart with a sharing of yourself, good food and fellowship.

Rejoicing in the heavens with all the angels in song, entertaining the Majestic Mansion, April 13, 2010 where you belong.

Dear Lilly,
This will probably sound funny but I have never wrote to you before. I had all of these thoughts and feelings in my head and now it is hard to put them on paper. So Lilly, here it goes, I will miss you so much. You have been more like a sister to me than an Aunt, I guess that's why I never called you, "Aunt Lilly." You will be missed by many loving people. If you could see how much you were loved, it would put a smile on your face, but you can't see that. Lilly, you have been a special person in my life, and I greatly appreciate everything that you have done for me. You were there when I was growing up (not listening to Grandpa about and getting too close to the moss on the Cibolo and then falling; but you kept me from getting hurt). This is one of our favorite stories...well along with why I didn't get to see, "Blue Hawaii" at the Brauntex, because Glenn decided to be born that day. You were there for my birthdays, graduation, marriage and the birth of my two sons. You told me how special being a grandmother can be and you were right-it is very special! Lilly, I will miss that call my birthday, telling me you love me and to tell Mike that too. We have a lot of special memories and I will cherish them forever. I feel like everything that i have accomplished came from your love. You have been a big part of my life and it will be hard to continue on without you, but I will. Like I promised you, I will make sure that Robert Lee, Glenn, Karen and Jordan are ok, even Mom. Lilly, I know in my heart that you are in a better place, seeing people that have passed before you and most important, you are pain free. I'm still doing the Relay for Life walk in your memory, so when I need that extra push, give me a sign from up above. Till I see you again,
