Linda Sue Schwab “Mimaw” 68, died at home peacefully April 15, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Lynn and Isabel Soechting Day. She moved to New Braunfels, Texas and made this her permanent home in 1951.
Linda was best remembered as a decorator and flooring expert, a profession she loved and exceled at for over 30 years. She leaves behind her beloved husband and best friend, Robert Lee Schwab, whom she married on April 27, 1967. Robert and Linda would have celebrated their 49 th wedding anniversary this month
.
Linda had three daughters whom she loved fiercely: twins, Jessica Dawn and Robin Michaela, and youngest, Meagan Lee. Linda was a great mother and always cherished her time with each child individually. Second to her relationship with her husband and daughters, Linda’s next greatest accomplishment was her 8 great-grandkids, all of whom affectionately called her Mimaw: James Tanner Cook, Robert Cody Hansmann, Ashleigh Michaela Toepperwein, Madelyn Lea Hansmann, John Wesley Moore, Joseph Wyatt Moore, Caleb and Corbin Moore. Mimaw loved all of her “kids” immensely and was a strong role model for them all.
Once diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2009, Linda never gave up. She never complained, maintaining a brave and cheerful outlook of an optimistic future – even through countless chemotherapy treatments, setbacks, hospitalizations and pain. She continued to “raise” her three children and was extremely active in their lives, as well as the lives of all her grandchildren. Linda also worked continuously, hardly taking breaks for treatment, and helped many people in the community with her experience and insight.
Linda, was born March 29, 1949 in Washington, PA, and grew up in New Braunfels, TX where she attended New Braunfels High School in and graduated in 1967. Linda met Robert and their loving companionship and friendship lasted almost 49 years.
Filled with compassion and interest in others, Linda made friends easily and maintained contact with many people. Linda also had a knack for befriending many new friends over the years and always made a point to keep in contact with them. Linda was always a phone call away and was often times overheard counseling or discussing another friend’s problems or concerns with empathy, grace and true benevolence. While completing numerous treatments at Texas Oncology, Linda was one of the favorites by nurses, doctors and patients. She kept in contact with many of these individuals throughout her treatment and theirs, and sadly attended many funerals for those she considered her friends.
Linda’s family would like to thank all of those that participated in her care over the years: Dr. Alexandr Zweibach and staff at Texas Oncology; Visiting Angels, especially Lahni and Ashley; Hope Hospice, especially Jen, Jennifer, Nia and staff; various friends and family who spent numerous hours with Mom in her last days and weeks, provided meals and general laughs during such a trying time.
Linda was a capable and talented artist. She loved painting and many of her paintings are proudly hung in the homes of friends and family today. Linda was extremely creative, and could always be counted on to put her flair on any project, whether it be work related, personal or a grandchild’s school project.
Linda loved gardening and growing flowers– especially iris and roses. Linda has given many iris bulbs away to friends and family over the years and will always be a reminder to those of the love she had for those closest to her.
Linda is survived by her husband, Robert, and her three children: Jessie, Robbie and Meagan; her sister, Charlotte Dolle and her mother-in-law, Gertrude Schwab. She is also survived by cousins Herman and Mike Dueweke. Linda has several nieces and nephews who loved her dearly: Lora Dolle, Janet Loftin, Lara Busa and Randy Schwab; Tina Bertsch and Becky Jentsch.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Cancer Society, Linda’s life will be celebrated in a visitation at Zoeller Funeral Home on Friday, April 21 from 2-5PM, with a brief service immediately following.
