Loyd was born in San Antonio Texas on April 14, 1920 to John F. and Mary Ethel Haggerty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers John Jr and Wilbur Lee, his sister Mildred, the love of his life for nearly 72 years, Elsie May Wilson Haggerty, his daughter-in-law Angie Haggerty, and his grandson Timothy McKinney.
He is survived by four children, Loyce McKinney, Loyd "Bud", Larry and wife Deanna, and Jon and wife Rocky and his sister Illa Moody. He was tickled to have 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren to heckle and torment while cheating at cards and during other mischievous deeds to giggle about.
Dad was a local truck driver for East Texas Motor Freight in Houston and worked at the shipyards before serving during WWII in the Navy from May 1943 to Feb 1946 in Aviation Ordiance in Seattle, Washington. After the war he became a carpenter and worked as a framer/trim carpenter for many home builders. From 1947 to 1952 he served as a member of the Klein School Board, the school district from which he had graduated in 1936 from what was then Klein Public High #1. He drew the original concept of the Klein "Bearkat" which was later used for the High School Mascot image. He helped several families build "poor boy" homes, a concept where they built with available funds and he wouldn't charge his labor, so that upon completion they had a home with little or no mortgage to move into. He helped build the buildings for several Church of Christ congregations in the Houston area and here in New Braunfels. He surely did more, he would never boast of what he did, he just did it with a grin and kept it in his heart. He gave of his time and talents generously to those that he knew to be in need. He always gave 110% of his effort and honesty to those he worked for, his employees, and anyone else in need who crossed his path. He didn't have to be loud or forceful, he exuded a force via a quite strong demeanor, he just lead by example. He made you feel loved though he couldn't say the words, when you told him 'I love you" his standard reply was "Back at you". Everyone who knew Dad respected and loved him and will dearly miss him. We, his children, and his family, loved him and will forever hold him in high regards have a void in our hearts and lives from his and Mom's passing.
