It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lydon James Flume, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. Lydon passed away unexpectedly on May 11, 2024, in the comfort of his home at the age of 65.
Lydon was born on August 2, 1958, in San Antonio, Texas, to the late Edward and Betty Ann Randol Flume. Growing up with 5 brothers and a sister, Lydon spent his childhood summers at the family lake house on Lake Dunlap in New Braunfels. Here he cultivated a deep love for waterskiing, built lifelong friendships, and eventually charmed his way into the heart of the love of his life, Laura.
Lydon graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1976 and carried his talents to Southwest Texas State University where he spent more time on the lake than he did in the classroom. He began his career alongside his father running Ed Flume Building Specialties, eventually taking over the family business.
In 1976, Lydon met Laura Chambers and they wed on September 21, 1985. For the past 48 years, they built a beautiful life overflowing with love and laughter, and fulfilled many hopes and dreams! Lydon was a selfless and steadfast leader of his family, a constant protector, and the extent of his love is impossible to measure.
Lydon’s passions were as varied as they were vibrant. He loved water skiing, hunting, fishing, sailing, surfing, grilling, baking cookies, and was famous for his legendary jerky. His love for the water and the outdoors was infectious and he managed to foster a similar passion in those around him especially during his years as a water ski instructor on Lake McQueeney. Lydon had the uncanny ability to make anyone feel special and welcome. He was extremely personable, never meeting a stranger, and made friends wherever he went. Known for that “shit eating grin” and soft spoken demeanor, he radiated happiness and was always the life of the party. Lydon was the rock, the glue, and the peacemaker for all who were fortunate enough to be in his circle. His gentle and compassionate nature united people and will continue to inspire us all to always extend kindness and to strive to be better for time is fleeting.
Lydon is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Betty and his brother, Ed Flume Jr. He is survived in death by his wife, Laura, and his two cherished daughters, Sarah Flume Claussen (Sam) and Shauna Ann Flume. Lydon was eagerly anticipating his newest role as Grandpa, excited to meet his first grandbaby next month.
Lydon is also survived by his siblings: Johnny, Raymond, Mike, Kathy, and Ricky. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, and countless friends he chose as family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on September 14, 2024 from 2pm - 5pm at Lake Breeze Ski Lodge. 25 Ski Lodge Rd, McQueeney, TX 78123.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the local AA chapter, The 24 Club, 1142 Eikel Street, New Braunfels, TX 78130, honoring Lydon’s commitment to helping others.
