

Marcus Vega, Sr., of Houston, TX, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at the age of 65. He was born to Manuel Vega and Guadalupe (Gandara) Vega on March 5, 1949 in Houston, TX. He enlisted in the US Army at the age of 18 and served in the 11th Cavalry during the Vietnam war. He was a Purple Heart Recipient and received many other commendations for his faithful service. Marcus will be remembered for his generosity, friendliness, and his love of music. He was a devoted father to his children and a beloved brother to all his siblings. He enjoyed traveling abroad, reading, and spending time with friends and family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his two children: daughter, Mandy Hernandez and husband Raymundo; and son, Marcus Vega, Jr. and wife Griselda Carrillo; six grandchildren, Celestine, Annalisa & Raymundo Hernandez, III; and Alicia, Jay& Nayeli Vega all of Houston, TX; sister, Celestina "Sylvia" Valencia of La Puente, CA; brother, Manuel Vega, Jr. of Houston, TX; sister, Josephine "Joann" Ripley and husband Dan of Rosenberg, TX; sister, Virginia "Nina" Padron and husband Frank of Houston, TX; brother, Tony Vega and wife Pat of Houston, TX; twin sister, Marie Rodriguez and husband Pasqual of New Braunfels, TX and brother, Jesse William Vega and wife Yolanda of Houston, TX; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Lupe Vega; brother, Robert Vega; and sister, Angelita "Dondie" Flores. Public visitation will begin 3:00 pm Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the Guardian Angel Funeral Home with a Rosary and Prayer Service. A Graveside Service will be held 11:30 am Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Houston National Cemetery with military honors.
