Born on August 9, 1961, Mari embraced every chapter of life with passion, independence, and unwavering authenticity. She was a gifted concert violist, drawn to the viola's rich, warm voice and the unique role it plays in holding an ensemble together from within. Music was both her discipline and her joy. She especially cherished performing with the Starlight Symphony Orchestra in Wimberley and the surrounding area, where her artistry touched audiences and forged lasting friendships.
Beyond the concert hall, Mari found freedom on the open road. She loved traveling across the country with her best friend, Debbie McCullough, always ready for the next adventure. She also shared many treasured years with her significant other, Berto, whose companionship, love, and support brought her great happiness.
Riding her Harley brought her a special kind of happiness, and she was equally at home in leather riding gear with the wind at her back as she was dressed in concert black with a bow in her hand. To Mari, those worlds were never opposites. Both were expressions of the same belief: to feel life deeply and never hold back.
When Mari was not performing or riding her beloved Harley, you could often find her singing karaoke with her best friend Debbie, Berto, and family. Those joyful gatherings, filled with music, laughter, and the people she loved most, reflected the vibrant spirit that made her so unforgettable.
Mari was fiercely loyal, funny, generous, and wonderfully stubborn in all the best ways. She loved wholeheartedly, stood firmly by those she cared about, and left an unforgettable impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. A true patriot, Mari was proud of her service to her country and the values she held dear throughout her life. In recognition of that service, she will be honored with full military honors at Fort Sam Houston, a fitting tribute to a woman who lived with courage, independence, and conviction.
She is survived by her siblings, Stuart, Terill, and Tiffany; her beloved significant other, Berto; her dear friend, Debbie McCullough; and her cherished nieces and nephews, Christina, Alexis, Lindsey, Devon, Ali, Duke, Salem, Ashley, Megan, and Haylie, all of whom held a special place in her heart. She is also survived by other loving family members, friends, fellow musicians, and riding companions whose lives were enriched by her presence.
Mari will be laid to rest with full military honors at Fort Sam Houston, a final salute to a true patriot whose life was marked by service, strength, and unwavering independence. Details of her service will be forthcoming.
