

Mariana “Anita” Ortega went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the age of 98. She was born to Fermin and Guadalupe Garcia on April 9, 1917 in Laredo, Texas. Mariana married the love of her life, Ramon Ortega Sr., on August 23, 1933. They were married for 54 glorious years and raised 10 beautiful children together. She was the longest running member of the Hispanic organization, Union Funebre De Padres Familiares. Mariana enjoyed, playing bingo with family and friends, raking the yard, and most importantly chasing after her grandkids. She was proud of her family, especially when her son, Adolfo Ortega Sr., Special E-4, returned from Vietnam. Mariana was known as the “west side neighborhood Grandma”. She loved everybody.
Mariana was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ramon Ortega Sr.; son, Ramon Ortega Jr. and wife Socorro; and grandsons, Bryan Machuca and Baby Joey Lara.
She is survived by her daughter, Candelaria Garza and husband Felix Garza Sr.; son, Guadalupe “Lupe” Ortega and wife Maria C. Ortega; son, Refugio Ortega and wife Joann Ortega; son, Francisco Ortega Sr. and wife Maria M. Ortega; son Adolfo “Popo” Ortega Sr. and wife Marta Ortega; daughter, Olga Ortega, daughter, Ramona Ortega, daughter, San Juana “Janie” Gonzales and husband Juan Gonzales; and daughter, Gloria M. Rodriguez and husband Eugene Rodriguez Sr. ; 41 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren, and 41 great-great grandchildren She is also survived by her sisters, Cecilia Perez and Dolores Garcia, and brother, Jose Garcia and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Pallbearers will be Eddie Machuca Jr., Eugene Rodriguez Jr., Ruben Espinosa Jr., Frank Ortega Jr., Ernest Garza Jr., and David Ortega. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hunter Garza and Mark Ortega.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Zoeller Funeral Home beginning at 5:00pm until 9:00pm. A Rosary will be recited starting at 7:00pm. The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 2:00pm at Holy Family Catholic Church. We will be departing from Zoeller Funeral Home at 1:30pm in procession to Holy Family. Interment will immediately follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
