Marshall Littleton
December 11, 1956 – January 3, 2013
Marshall David Littleton, 56, passed away on January, 3rd, 2013 in New Braunfels, Texas. He was born on December, 11th 1956 in Hondo, Texas to Raymond and Eunice (Fain) Littleton.
Marshall grew up in Devine, Texas and graduated from Devine High School in 1974. After high school he attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas but chose to pursue his dream of becoming a Police Officer. He was accepted into the Austin Police Academy and was commissioned in October of 1978. During his 10 year tenure, he rose through the ranks from Patrolman, to Senior Patrolman, Accident Investigator, Field Training Officer, and finally joined the ranks of the elite APD SWAT Team and Bomb Squad.
During this time he decided to resume his pursuit of his educational goals and completed his degree in Criminal Justice from SWTSU. With this education and his vast experience, he moved on to become a Special Agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms and specialized in Explosives and Arson Investigation. He became a Certified Fire Investigator and was named to the National and International Response Teams. As a member of these teams he played an integral part in the investigation for many high profile cases such as the Oklahoma City Bombing and the Pentagon after 9/11. He was highly regarded as one of the most talented Fire Investigators in the country. In 1995 he was named Comal County Lawman of the year. He retired on December 29th, 2012 after more than 34 years in law enforcement.
Marshall married Shirley Ruiz in 1981 in Austin, Texas and they were happily married for 32 years. They had daughters Danielle and Deidra, raised them in New Braunfels and were actively involved in all their activities. Over the years he enjoyed golf, playing guitar, scuba diving, and was an avid outdoorsman. Marshall was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his spouse Shirley of New Braunfels, Texas; daughters: Danielle Gibbs and her husband Nathan of Dallas, Texas and Deidra Flugrath and her husband Dustin of Tyler, Texas; brothers: Dale Littleton and his wife Sara of Midlothian, Texas and Charlie Littleton of McDade, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be held at Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa Street, New Braunfels, Texas on Tuesday, January 8th from 5pm to 9 pm with a Rosary at 7pm. A funeral Mass will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 386 North Castell Street, New Braunfels, Texas on Wednesday January 9th at 2 pm. Interment will follow at Sts Peter and Paul Cemetery located at the intersection of Peace and Common Streets in New Braunfels Texas.
The family would like to express heart felt gratitude to the physicians and clinical staff in the ICU at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital New Braunfels for their expert and compassionate care.

Dear Shirley and Family,
I am deeply saddend with your loss and the passing of one of the true great men I had the pleasure of knowing.
I too enjoyed Marshalls' smiling face morning after morning as he was my suitemate during CIS and roommate during NAT, acting as my personal alarm clock for both ATF schools. Marshall was a teacher, a mentor, a friend, a professional and most of all, a truely great man whom I will dearly miss. I am sorry I could not make his services but I am sure he is still watching over me, "his little buddy". May God bless you and your family and help you cope with your tragic loss. Please remember, your ATF family is always here if needed.

Dear Shirley, I was most saddened to learn of Marshall's death. I had planned to attend his memorial service today but cannot. There will be many, many friends and family there, however, and I fervently hope that brings you and the girls comfort.
I became a Chaplain after my retirement from ATF in 1996, and I spend much of my time in hospitals, nursing homes, etc. I know that you are Catholic and I am Presbyterian, but I would like to offer you any assistance you might like, not just now, but at anytime in the future. I am, or at least try to be, a good non-judgmental listener, so feel free to contact me if you just want to talk. Marshall talked about you and the girls all the time. I want you to know this....that you and the girls were always in his thoughts.
You three are in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless.

Shirley and family, my deepest sympathy and prayers are with you and your family. I am so very sorry for your loss. I am grateful to have been back in touch with Marshall a few months ago before the weddings of both your daughters. He was so excited about both your daughters weddings.... He was a wonderful man and loved his family so very much. God graced me with knowing him. I am a former APD dispatcher, and Marshall was the photographer for my wedding back in 1983. Thank you for sharing with all of us. I pray for you and your daughters especially that God will bless each of you with His love, peace and strength. You and your family will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless You, Kathy Walton

Dear Littleton Family,
I was heartbroken at the news of Marshall's passing. I consider him one of my better friends and colleagues with ATF. I always looked forward to being in training-work (CES/CFI/NRT) when I knew Marshall would be there. His sense of humor, easy going demeanor, cowboy up attitude, and wisdom always kept me laughing or nodding in agreement. Marshall will always be fondly remembered in my thoughts. I know he is resting now with his Saviour, and he will be watching over his family. May Christ be with each of you through this difficult time.

Marshall was a classmate to me in the 60th CADET CLASS of the Austin Police Department Academy. He was a supporting class mate during our studies in the academy. Death is something we do not always understand. However, those who die in Christ will live again. Sleep Marshall. We will meet again in that great getting up morning. May the Lord bless this family with strength during this time of bereavement. Remember God Loves you and so do I. Be Blessed....Retired SPO Johnetta Ellison. Be encouraged.
