Mary Nan Aldridge passed away at age 92. She was born October 4, 1931, in Edinburg, Texas. She was proceeded in death by her husband Richard L. Aldridge, parents, Edgar and Lillian Koen, brothers: Ted Koen and John Koen, Sisters: Ada Keiffer and Beth Littleton. She had two children Matt and Mary Melissa, who died very young.
Survivors include her brother, Bill Koen of Wimberly, Texas, two sons Richard Aldridge from Dallas, David Aldridge and his wife Lynn from Omaha, Nebraska. Grand Children Eva Aldridge. David Aldridge Jr., Jenna Aldridge, Justin Walker and Jordan Walker.
She and her husband married June 6, 1952, and made their first home in Weslaco, Texas. They moved to College Station in 1962. In 1966, John Deere hired her husband as a Senior Engineering Analyst, and they moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa and soon to Hudson, Iowa. When her husband retired, they moved to Alpine, Texas. Upon her retirement they settled in New Braunfels, Texas.
Mary Nan was an educator. She received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education From Texas A&I. Beginning in 1952 she began teaching. She taught elementary and middle school in the Rio Grande Valley and in College Station. She accepted a professorial position at The University of Northern Iowa. She Received her PhD from Iowa State University, while continuing to teach and be a very present mother. Mary Nan developed the Doctoral Program at UNI in the Education Department for Curriculum and Instruction. It immediately became a very popular program. She returned to Texas and accepted a position at Sull Ross University in Alpine. She developed the doctoral program there as well. She was a beloved educator for many years. Through her long career in education,She touched many lives which influenced many times more.
A celebration of life for Mary will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa St, New Braunfels, Texas 78130.
