Mary Lualice Lieck, age 90, of New Braunfels, Texas went home to our Lord on January 17, 2019. She was born on August 11,1928, on the family farm in Runnels County, Texas to Wyatt and Margaret Wilson McKown. After the family moved to San Antonio, Texas, Mary attended and graduated from San Antonio Vocational Technical High School now Fox Tech. After high school, she attended The Medical & Surgical Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, now Baptist Memorial School of Nursing, receiving her Diploma R.N. graduating in 1948.
Mary met her future husband, Milton William Lieck, while she was caring for his mother in the hospital. Milton asked his mother who that cute little nurse was and told his mother that he was going to marry her one day. Milton and Mary did marry on April 10, 1948, in the same year that she graduated from nurses training. Mary practiced nursing for over 20 years working for both hospitals and private practice physicians in San Antonio, Houston and briefly in New Braunfels where she and Milton both retired. They both loved nine-pin bowling and going to dances with their friends. Mary loved fishing anywhere that she could, hunting, playing Bingo, going to the casino and being with her friends. She was strong in her faith and a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, St. Ann's Christian Mother’s Society and she belonged to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. In her retirement, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and continued to be a survivor until her death.
Her parents, Wyatt and Margaret Wilson McKown; husband Milton Lieck and her sister Patsy Jean Travis preceded Mary in death. She is survived by her daughter Glenda Janca, husband Bob, their sons, Clayton and Matthew Janca, wife Julie, great-grandchildren Christopher and Caden McAninch . Her son Alan Lieck and wife Margie, their daughters Heather Larson and husband David, Anneke Talviste and husband Jason, great-grandchildren Riley and Lia Talviste, as well as cousins, five nephews and their families.
Visitation at Zoeller Funeral Home will be Monday, January 28, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm with Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, January 29, 2019at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels at 2:00 pm. Burial will be at Fort Sam National Cemetery on February 6, 2019.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hope Hospice New Braunfels, Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the American Cancer Society or a charity of one's choice.
