It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our daughter, Megan Marie Heath-McLane on September 12, 2025. Megan was born October 21, 1975, in Houston, Texas. She is survived by her son, Heath McLane, whom she loved beyond life itself, parents Joe Heath of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Susan and Ricky Matt of New Braunfels, and brothers Jerod Heath and Ross Matt. A celebration of life service will be held in Pawhuska, Oklahoma where she will join her much loved grandparents, Bill and Peggy Heath and Aunt Marie.
Megan attended Texas State University where she received both her Bachelor and Masters degree from the College of Education graduating Magna Cum Laude. While in college, Megan did a summer study in Puerto Rico where she was fully immersed in the Spanish culture. She chose to do her student teaching in New Zealand and absolutely fell in love with the country and the people there. We later found out that she had bungy jumped over a 100-foot gorge before returning to the States. She was so proud to show us the video of her jump and watch the expressions on our faces!
Megan was a life-long learner always asking questions and doing research on whatever subject she was curious about. She taught in Comal ISD touching the lives of her second and fourth grade students at Goodwin-Frazier Elementary and Freiheit Elementary schools, then became a teacher of the Gifted and Talented at Indian Springs Elementary where she passed along her love for learning. Her classroom was always buzzing with activity and conversation from excited, curious students. Megan encouraged her students to “think outside the box,” to ask questions and do the research to find the answers. She wrote numerous grants for her students, one of which included obtaining a 3-D printer for the classroom, which was used to create objects related to their projects. Students were enthusiastic about attending GT where they were encouraged to work together in small groups, relying on each other’s strengths and creativity to complete their projects. Megan sponsored Lego League and entered numerous competitions with her teams. Learning was fun in Ms. Heath’s class!
Megan loved to travel and instilled that love in her son, Heath. They took wonderful trips together to the Bahamas where they swam with the pigs, Alaska at Christmas time where they stayed in “igloos” at the North Pole, fed live reindeer and observed the Northern Lights up close and personal. While visiting San Francisco, Megan and Heath rode the ferry to Alcatraz Island where Heath could see the very real consequences of poor life choices. Their trips were true adventures chocked full of wonderful learning opportunities.
Megan’s wonderful sense of humor, generosity and loving heart will be missed by all who knew her. We love you, Megan, and are at a loss as to what our lives will be like without you. Fly high, Sweet Girl. On to your next great adventure……
