He was born to Jake deBoom and Irene Voortman deBoom in Artesia, California on January 29, 1946. He grew up in the Dutch community in the Chino Valley area and graduated from Ontario Christian High School. He went on to graduate from Calvin College, while also serving two years in the Army during Vietnam where he taught guided missile electronics to allied officers. After service, he returned to the Chino area and married Sandy Van Hofwegen of Steve and Clara Van Hofwegen.
Throughout his life, Mike work tirelessly for the well-being of his family. He often worked multiple jobs at a time which included a tree trimmer, bus driver, college professor, and loading doc employee. His hard work carried him from the docs of the warehouse to Director of warehouse distribution for Alpha Beta grocery stores. He then took a job with HEB grocery stores and moved his family to San Antonio, TX. After fifteen years in TX, Mike and Sandy moved back to California for several years and eventually moved back to TX and retired to Canyon Lake to be closer to his grandchildren.
Mike also worked hard to advance the Kingdom of God. He served for many years as an elder in the Christian Reformed and Orthodox Presbyterian Church, a school board member at Ontario Christian and San Antonio Christian, a high school and young adult leader, a Sunday school teacher, and a Christian event speaker.
Besides spending time with his family, in his spare time Mike enjoyed reading Reformed theology, gardening, weight lifting making up songs to the delight of his children and grandchildren and a good cigar.
Mike will be remembered by his family and friends as funny, entertaining, outspoken, forgiving, and kind with a tender heart to those in need. But most of all he was a dedicated and loving father that put his faith in God above all else.
He is survived by his loving wife Sandy deBoom of Canyon Lake; daughter, Andrea Maik and husband Andrew, of Boerne, TX; son, Daniel deBoom and wife Kelly of Canyon Lake, TX; son, Nathan deBoom and wife Rachel of Pasadena, CA; and daughter, Sara Worch and husband Marcel of Canyon Lake, TX; 8 grandchildren, Gracie, AnaClara, Jesse; Walker and Rocky; Jake; and Holani and Haukea; sister, Norma Dekker of Lynden, WA; and numerous, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and five siblings.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Christ Presbyterian Church in New Braunfels with Pastor Dick Jones officiating.
