

1922 – 2012
Newton A. Brown, Jr. returned to his Heavenly Father’s home and to the Savior whom he loved and served on November 14, 2012 from his home in New Braunfels, Tx. following a gradual decline in health and Alzheimers over the last few years. Newton was born June 15, 1922 in Cuero, Dewitt Co., Texas to Newton A. Brown, Sr. and Beatrice K. Marie Denton. His grandparents were Albert Erastus Brown, Sr. of Cuero, Tx. and Lula C. Vollers of Nuremberg, Germany. His great grandparents were Oscar Spotswood Brown and Mary Francis Lloyd of England. His great-great grandfather was a descendant of Bezaleel Brown of the “B” Browns of Browns Cove, Virginia.
Newton enjoyed the summers on his grandfather’s farm in Cuero riding horses, hunting rabbits and dove. As a young boy he was fun loving and mischievous. He graduated from Alamo Heights, Tx. in San Antonio, Tx. on a golf scholarship to Trinity University.
Newton Joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served in WWII where he sailed aboard the U.S. Naval Ship RL Howze. During this time, he met the love of his life Betty Isabel Morton. She was stocking shelves in the family’s grocery store in Hawthorne, Nevada. They were married in Reno, Nevada and after the war shortly lived in San Antonio, Tx. His new career with Chrysler Corp. took them to Raymondville, Tx., continued to Houston, Tx. and finally to Becker Motor Co. in New Braunfels, Tx. where he later retired. An avid gardener, he loved to produce vegetables for his friends and family. He even introduced G90 corn to Comal County. Golf was his lifelong passion and his poetry was a gift. Newton worked hard, was kind and honest. He instilled the values and morals in his children and grandchildren to live by the Golden Rule. He always put others first.
He is survived by his wife, Betty M. Brown of Betty Brown Real Estate, two daughters, Beverly Cheney and Cindy Brennan. They have four grandchildren, Parris E. Cheney, Paxton and Aaron Brown and Christin Brennan Gibbs and four great grandchildren. His sister, Lunell B. Coppedge lives in Austin, Tx. Preceding him in death was his son, Newton M Brown. The loving care and support of his wife Betty, Sandy and Hope Hospice allowed him the dignity to remain in his home during the past 3 years. Javier Gonzalez grew to be a son to him taking over the duties of his farming and many tasks he could not do. Javier’s companionship and love became a gift to him.
friends and family visitation will be November 19 form 4:30 – 7:00 pm at Zoeller Funeral Home in New Braunfels and funeral services will be November 20 at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of LDS, 1390 Hanz Dr. Interment will be at the Guadalupe Valley Cemetery with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy and Bagpipe Soloist. The family requests any memorial contributions go to Hope Hospice.
