O'Neal Weigelt was born March 26, 1928 on a farm near Carmine, Texas to Alfons and Alvina Renck Weigelt. They had five children: Mervin (Geraldine), Mildred (Melvin), O'Neal (Edna), Alfons R.C. (Darlene) and W.E. (died in infancy). O'Neal helped with farm work and after high school in 1947, he moved to Austin and started working in the dairy business that included producing milk, ice cream and other dairy products. After three years there, the Army called upon him to serve two years: 6 months in California, 1 year in Japan, and 6 months in Korea. Upon his return from overseas he went back to work at the dairy where he met Mary Atchison and they were married in 1954. She had four children from a previous marriage: Wesley, Joan, James and Thomas. All are deceased except for Thomas who lives in the Houston area. Shortly after he retired from the dairy, Mary passed away in 1994 and subsequently he called upon a mutual friend of theirs for a dinner date and the rest is history. He and Edna Kramer were married on June 10, 1995. Edna had three daughters and two stepsons from previous marriages: Donna (Marvin), Glenda, Janet (Mark), Wayne and Keith (Sherry). While living in Austin, O'Neal made use of his farming background by maintaining a very large garden. Each year he would grow lots of vegetables and what he and Edna did not can they shared with friends and family. He also shared the many pecans he picked and shelled each year from his pecan trees. O'Neal was very active in their church and worked he food pantry for many years. He was an ice cream connoisseur who would whip up batches of that homemade delight every summer. He enjoyed watching sports on TV and working on his acreage out in the country. One of his proudest moments was being selected to make the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. There he was able to visit the Korean War Memorial along with several of the other monuments and memorials. He and Edna lived in Austin until August of 2018 when they relocated to Brookdale Assisted Living in New Braunfels. He is preceded in death by his wife, Edna, and is survived in death
by a number of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
