OBITUARY

Paul Schurig

October 3, 1939June 5, 2013

Paul Wood Schurig Paul Schurig was born on October 3, 1939 in Gonzales, Texas to Marie and Wally Schurig. Paul left this world all too soon on June 5, 2013 after a battle with dementia and Alzheimer’s. He was the oldest of two sons growing up in Gonzales. Paul was a bright and athletic child, football, basketball, track and baseball. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Paul married Doris Jean Grossman of Shiner, Texas on November 4, 1961. They had two sons, Kyle Glen Schurig, born on November 12, 1962, and Randy Lane Schurig, born on July 31, 1967.

Paul worked many jobs growing up, finally settling in as service manager for 27 years at Krueger Chevrolet in New Braunfels. Paul also, as his wife and children did, showed horses on a competitive level. As he grew in years, he chose to judge horses on a professional level. He held judges cards for, paint, pinto, appaloosa, palomino, mule and pony associations.

Paul donated his time and facilities to the local 4-H club and offered his expertise in the showing area from the judges’ viewpoint.

Paul and Doris founded Twin Pine Stables in New Braunfels, a facility that offers both boarding and training in both Western and English riding and lessons for beginner and experienced riders.

Paul is survived by his, two sons, Kyle Schurig of Buda, Texas and Randy Schurig of New Braunfels, Texas, and his six grandchildren, Austen, Quinn, Rainer, and Ronan Schurig of Buda, Texas, Douglas Schurig of San Antonio, Texas, and Kristina Schurig of San Antonio, Texas and his brother Tommy Schurig of Gonzales Texas, his wife Pat and their children, Ira, Ina and Ian. Paul leaves behind a legacy of dedication and love that will be sorely missed by his children and grandchildren and all of the many students, colleagues, and friends who were touched by his kindness.

The family will host a public visitation on Wednesday night, June 12, 2013 from 6 – 9 pm at Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa Street, New Braunfels, Texas. The funeral will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2011 at 10:00 am, in the chapel at Zoeller Funeral Home, with a graveside ceremony to follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park, 2951 State Hwy. 46 South, New Braunfels, Texas.

Paul was a classmate and friend during our school days; always fun, upbeat and happy. Later, when he worked with J. C., we met Doris and the friendship continued through the years. We were so glad that he could attend our class luncheons for a time and will always remember both of them as good friends and wonderful people. We'll miss them both and keep you all in our prayers.

Mr. Schurig,
For the many times you made me brush those darn tails till there were no more tangles, I'm thankful!
For all the times you made me remember my back number, I'm thankful!
For all the times I imagined seeing you in your underoos so I would smile when you judged me, I'm thankful!
For all the times you told me why you placed me over or under another horse, I'm thankful!
For all the evenings we had 4-H meetings in your barn, I'm thankful!
For allowing me to work with you and your family and groom my heart out, I'm thankful!
For showing me all the ways to be passionate about horses, a perfectionist in the show ring, and to be a humble winner..... I'm forever grateful!
You have been a foundation in my childhood, and a friend in my teen years, and a mentor as I became an adult.
I will always love you, Mrs. Schurig, Kyle, and Randy. Thank you for being a special part of my life!
Love,
Heather

We didn't know Mr. Schurig personally, but we know Kyle, we go to the same church. If Kyle is like Mr. Schurig, we're sure he is a very nice man. Our sympathy goes out to the family and espeically Kyle. As God shows Mr. Schurig the way home, we hope he gives the family comfort. May Gods promises and his word give you all peace.
