Peter D. Udelhoven of New Braunfels passed away Thursday August 25 at Methodist hospital in Houston, TX due to complications resulting from vasculitis which he had been battling for the past 3 months.
Peter is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda of New Braunfels, son Tony and daughter Natalie of Houston, and son Peter Shawn of Lake Zurich, IL. He is also survived by grandchildren Nick and Natasha Eades and Emily and Daniel Udelhoven as well as his sister Grace of WI and numerous nieces and nephews.
Peter was born in Potosi, WI on April 8, 1939. He was the youngest of 11 children with 7 sisters and 3 brothers. His early life was spent growing up on a small dairy farm in Montfort, WI.
Peter graduated from high school in Lancaster, WI where he still holds the record for the most points scored (50 pts) in a single basketball game. He was the first member of his family to go to college and graduated from Wisconsin State College in Platteville with a BS in Mining Engineering which was used in his first job working in a molybdenum mine in Climax, CO.
One day he answered an ad in the papers looking for people to come work for an oilfield service company called Schlumberger. This lead to an exciting career of traveling the world with Schlumberger, working in Oklahoma and Alaska in the US initially. Then on to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Paris, London, Norway and finally Indonesia. After retiring from Schlumberger, He and Linda bought and ran a charter fishing business in Homer, AK for 11 years.
Peter was a life member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He also was a past trustee of the Elks and belonged to the Eagles as well as serving as a volunteer on various organizations.
Peter loved hunting, fishing and playing golf. He always said it wasn’t the golf score that mattered as much as the good friends he made golfing. He also loved playing cards and was always ready for a game of cribbage, hearts, spades, euchre, or a friendly game of poker.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Christus Santa Rosa, Warm Springs and Methodist Hospital CCC. We would also like to thanks the many friends for their prayers and support.
Services will be held on Saturday Sept. 3 at First United Methodist church, 572 W. San Antonio St. New Braunfels. Viewing will be at 10:00 and the service will held at 11:00 with a reception to follow. Interment will be at Hill Country Memorial Gardens at 2:00 PM
