

He developed his lifelong passion for tennis during his early childhood in Nyack, NY and played tennis throughout his life until his illness overtook him.
In high school and college, he played varsity tennis. He graduated from University of Arkansas in 1966 with a degree in marketing, which he used immediately, starting as an area sales representative for RJ Reynolds. Pete stayed with the company 34 years, receiving numerous recognitions and promotions until his retirement.
While living in RI for many years, Pete teamed with his partner, Butch “Jay” Allie, to achieve New England Tennis Association rankings in doubles several years, an honorable mention in 35 singles, and other tournaments’ recognitions. Some of his most prized tennis moments were being a Linesman for three U.S. Open Tennis Championships in New York.
He was preceded in death by his parents Van and Josephine (VanNess) Writer. Surviving him are his wife, Cynthia, sons Michael, Brian, Tim (Leilani), seven grandchildren, Mari Chris, Jeffrey, Cooper, Parker, George, Laura and Vera Writer, two brothers Robert (Rita) Writer, and Dean (Janet) Writer, sister-in-law, Toni Allen Test, several nieces, nephews, and grand nephews and three cousins and their families.
A funeral service will be held at Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa St, New Braunfels, TX, on August 9, 2024 at 10:00 am. Interment will be August 14, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio TX.
