Richard W. Platero passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at the age of 71 at his home in Bulverde, Texas. He was born in Calexico, California on April 21, 1950 to Ricardo G. Platero and Gloria Wimer Platero. He moved to Watsonville, California with his family at the age of 16 residing there until moving to Hollister, California in 2004 where he resided until 2018 retiring to Texas.
Richard was a U.S. Army veteran and worked as a truckdriver from 1973 until his retirement in 2018, driving for Kaiser Sand and Gravel, Miles and Sons Trucking, Assured Aggregates, and Theron Hildebrand trucking. Richard was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a Harley Davidson and classic Cadillac enthusiast. Richard was a man of simple pleasures and his charismatic personality and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Ricardo and Gloria Platero and brother, Pedro Ortez. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sherry Platero; daughter, Laurie Platero Ross (Rob); son, Christopher Platero (Michelle); and son, Richard P. Platero (Sara); grandchildren, Ryan Platero, Lindsay Platero, Mason Ross, Mia Platero and Remy Platero; siblings, Frank Ortez, Rinaldo Ortez, Jennie Roque, Manuel Platero, and Gigi Rodriguez and numerous nieces and nephews.
