Teddy Wayne Newell, 68, took his final walk from his home in New Braunfels Texas, on May 30, 2019. He joins his parents, and three siblings: Ronnie, Lenny and Nancy. Teddy was born on February 4, 1951 to Parks and Louise Newell of Charlotte, North Carolina. He was the 6th of 7 children, and is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Carl and Martha of Loganville, GA; Reece and Paula of Mint Hill, NC; Robert and Jan of Matthews, NC. He is also survived by his former wife Nanette Bevers of San Antonio, TX, with whom he maintained a lifelong, loving friendship with.

Teddy would say his greatest pride was to be the father of his five children; Kimberly and Lisa Greene of New Braunfels, TX; Peter and Ashley Newell of Seattle, WA; Andrew and Jennifer Newell of Seattle WA; John and April Newell of San Antonio TX; and Joshua Newell of San Antonio, TX. His love was reserved most for his 11 grandchildren: Malachi, Abbey, Zoey, Cameron, Rhythm, Connor, Emalyn, Olivia, Alethia, Levi and the announcement of the newest addition that he was secretly waiting to share with the world, expected in December 2019.

Teddy graduated from East Mecklenburg High School of Charlotte in 1969 and attended Central Piedmont Community College. He joined the United States Army and proudly served his country for 18 years before retiring to work as the the Shipping and Receiving Manager for Belks department stores in Charlotte, NC and Kerrville, TX where he retired in 2009.

Teddy dedicated and volunteered his time after retirement to helping families of graduating Airmen of the United States Air Force Basic Military Training. He was regularly found at “Teddy’s Spot” on Thursdays for the Airmen Run to greet the thousands of lives he touched in the Facebook group: Air Force M.O.M.S.B.M.T. Main Group- Mentoring our Military Supporters. He was deeply respected and treasured as a mentor and friend within this community.

He will be missed greatly by many of his online friends, near and far who considered him family and everyone who knew him. His greatest attribute was being a good friend.

“I think we underestimate how powerful simply being a friend can be… Teddy was a friend to women, to the oppressed and to those being impacted by our system. Teddy saw and stood with us. He was never afraid to stand up for what was right. We all knew we could count on him to be a true friend.” (K.T.)

He is forever our friend and hero.

A memorial to celebrate Teddy’s life will be held on Monday, June 17, 2019 at 12pm at Zoeller's Funeral Home in New Braunfels Texas with a procession to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2 pm where he will be buried with military honors.

Some time ago I was asked to do a report for school. Being new to this area I asked permissions to use an online friend who fit the description. Teddy gladly answered my questions and I learned a lot about him and his life. His greatest achievement was his children. He is a great friend and will truly be missed.

This is a huge loss to all the Moms Teddy touched and put to ease when our children went to BMT. It was such a pleasure meeting Teddy at the Airman’s run. Teddy was able to answer any concerns I had. God bless Teddy and his family. May he Rest In Peace!
