Theodore (Ted) Mark Madzy, 92, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on August 30th, 2025. Ted was born on August 11th, 1933 in Charleroi, Pa to Michael and Elenora (Rehula) Madzy.
Ted was a 1952 graduate of Charleroi High School and following graduation he entered the United States Air Force. After serving four years in the Air Force, Ted pursued and received a BS degree in Mathematics and Physics at Washington and Jefferson (W&J) College. While studying at W&J, Ted met the love of his life Edna (Alexander) and they got married soon after graduation. Ted accepted a job with the Government in Dahlgren, Va., and they moved to Colonial Beach, Va where they welcomed their first child (Marcia). Ted and Edna relocated to Oriskany, NY, where they had their son (Mark) and daughter (Kristine). Ted continued to build his experience in Electrical Engineering and Physics and accepted a position with IBM in Glendale, NY, and moved into their home in Endwell, NY. They had their fourth child (Michael) and while at IBM, Ted earned his MS in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University. Ted performed a myriad of roles throughout his illustrious 26-year career until he retired in 1991. Ted was a jack of all trades who could literally fix anything, and his retirement years were filled with helping his children with a multitude of home, automobile and landscaping issues that arose.
Ted was an active member of St. Joseph’s church in Endicott, NY., and participated in setting up and working at the annual church bazaar. He also participated in various IBM Country Club activities including softball, bowling, photography and the Travel Club. He always had a passion for travel, and one of Ted and Edna’s favorite memories was taking all four of their kids on a 7-week cross country vacation in 1975, in their camper. Throughout his life, Ted could tell you the exact route number and distance to any location in the United States. Over the years, they also took the entire family on many memorable family vacations that instilled the travel fever in all of them. Although he moved away from Charleroi, Ted remained an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates fan and made routine visits back to Charleroi and had weekly phone calls with his sisters (Myra, Lora, Carol and Marlene) . Ted was also a strong supporter of the Endwell community and he and Edna could always be seen at local concerts at Highland Park, Ice Cream socials at the O.L. Davis Fire Station, Little League games and football games with their beloved Maine Endwell Spartans. Ted was also a huge lover of dogs and aside from his own dogs (Trixie and Freedom) he babysat many grand dogs, and his love for dogs has been passed down to everyone in the family. In 2018, Ted and Edna moved to Gruene, Texas to be closer to their daughter Kristine and son Michael, and within five years, they became the proud great grandparents of six great grandchildren. Ted always said his greatest accomplishment was his wonderful family.
Ted is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Edna Alexander, four children; Marcia (Alan) Sholtes of Charleston, SC., Dr. Mark Madzy of Lawrenceville, NJ., Kristine (Mark) Pennell of Gruene, TX and Mike (Stephanie) Madzy of Marble Falls, TX., grandchildren; Joshua (Zoe) Pennell of Buda, TX, Zachary Pennell and his fiancé Nicole Moody of New Braunfels, TX, Tucker (Hope) Sholtes of Charleston, SC, Sabrina (Jason) Gierczak of Annapolis, Md., Dakota (Michael) Boggs of New Braunfels, TX., Wesley Madzy of Vancouver, Washington, Sophia Madzy and Charlotte Madzy of Lawrenceville, NJ., and great grandchildren; Amelia, Autumn and Noah Boggs, and Sage, Willow and Bodhi Pennell.
