Tommye D. White passed peacefully, surrounded by family and dear friends, on June 14, 2016. Born on September 16, 1937, she was one of 3 children born to Lonnie & Myrtle Storey. She was preceded in death by, her husband Melvin White. She left behind her daughter, Janice Fey and husband Jerome; grandchildren April Carley and husband Kennyn, Heather Krause and husband Kurtis and Janessa Koepp and husband Kyle; great-grandchildren Ayden Hayes, Kentyn Carley, Konnor Carley, Audrey Koepp, Kinley Koepp, Kooper Krause who were all considered joys of her life; two siblings, an aunt, nieces, nephews and cousins as well as a selected group of friends and colleagues that she considered family.
She graduated from Monterey High School and Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Tommye was the first woman to receive certifications from Disaster Recovery Institute and Harris Recovery Solutions Institute. She started her career within the Civil Service in Information Systems. Many years later she started her business in continuity/disaster recovery adventure either as an employee or a consultant in various industries such as oil and gas, state government, utilities, healthcare, financial, insurance, telecom. Tommye made a huge impact to each organization she represented.
During her time at the Texas Comptroller’s Office she was instrumental in the writing and implementing a Disaster Recovery Directive for the State of Texas (Texas Administrative Code 213.b). Tommye unselfishly, on many occasions, took time to train and bring others into the same career field; she was a wealth of information. Although she worked hard, she always took time to read and research Civil War and American History, her second passion. After retiring from consulting, Tommye didn’t stop her teaching of others she also became active with New Braunfels Republican Women and Oakwood Baptist Church. She co-authored a book recently published. She traveled with family, as well as enjoying spending time with her daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Aside from her family and dear friends, Tommye had the pleasure of working for Bob Bullock, Texas Comptroller and then acting Governor George W. Bush.
Those who met Tommye would often use the same words to describe her - "fun, knowledgeable, passionate, caring, the sweetest and lovingest stubborn woman in the world." Those of you who know her, know this to be true. One of the phases she would say to people was "You went around your elbow to get to your thumb!” always making them chuckle.
Tommye, mother, Mema, grandma, sister, niece, cousin, aunt and friend will be forever missed.
