

Virginia was born on December 16, 1935 in Cibolo, TX to Benjamin and Clara (Hermes) Pfeil. She was the third of six children born on the family farm in Cibolo. She was born into a musical family and learned to play the piano. As a teenager she played in a local band with family members.
Virginia married Gilbert Ikels on November 20, 1954 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels, TX. Together they had five children that they raised on their farm in New Braunfels. She was a great cook and seamstress for her family. She always had a large garden with every type of vegetable which she tended lovingly. She lost the love of her life in 1991 and remained a widow until her death.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gilbert Ikels; brother, Benjamin Pfeil, Jr.; son, David Ikels; grandson, Ben Ikels; and daughter, Carolyn Pittman.
She is survived by her son, Danny Ikels (Laura); daughter, Cathy Rivard (Joel) and son Douglas (Christine), 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren who will miss her dearly.
Virginia’s many passions included hunting, woodworking, scoping garage sale deals and Los Gallos bean and cheese tacos. She will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved her.

Services will be May 19 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. A public viewing will be held at 9 am with a funeral Mass at 10 am. A luncheon will be provided in St. Mary’s Hall followed by the burial at the Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery on Common Street.
