Wayne began his life journey on February 6, 1952, in Los Angeles, CA, born to Stanley and Eleanor Whittier. In the early 70s, he served in the Air Force developing reconnaissance film of the Vietnam War. In 1976 at the age of 24, he met his life partner and soulmate, Beckie. They built a beautIful life together, enjoyed shared passions and loved each other unconditionally. Wayne’s earthly journey ended in New Braunfels, TX on February 4, 2024.
Wayne loved life and lived on a big stage. His passions included music, photography, motorcycles, the outdoors, exotIc fish and saltwater aquariums, which naturally led him to scuba diving and becoming a master diver. He cultivated his life-long love of music by listening to everything he could get his hands on, writing songs, playing music, and enthusiastically sharing these gifts with those around him.
Wayne was an entrepreneur and the proud owner of WDS Landscape & Design for 27 years. He and his long-time dear friend, Mike Wilkinson, beautified hundreds of commercial and residential properties across the Texas Hill Country with dynamic native landscapes. They loved their work and many of their clients became good friends.
Family and friends grieve Wayne’s passing. He is survived by his wife, Beckie Whittier, cousin, Carla Knapp, niece and nephew, Ashley Smith and Morgan Frew and godson, Dillon Byrne. Wayne remained close to his high school buddies; Brian Byrne, Jim Crowell and John Panek, and dear friends Joni Austin, and Brad and Claudia Race. Having lived in New Braunfels for over 40 years, Wayne was fortunate to have developed many friendships, both socially and in business, all of whom had an impact on his life and a special place in his heart.
Thank you for such a wonderful, fun, and loving life together my beloved husband and soulmate. Spread your wings and fly high. Until we’re together again, my love. Beckie
