Anna “Hania” Michalowski passed away February 5, 2016 with her daughter Dorothy by her side. She was born December 26, 1930 in Zawichost, Poland and emigrated to the US with her husband and daughter in 1967. She was the daughter of Franciszka and Jozef Kaczmarski . Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Edwin Mieczyslaw Michalowski and her brothers, Antoni and Kazimierz Kaczmarski. She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Izabella Michalowski and their dog Sylvia with whom she made her home.
A very brave and tough WW II survivor, with a consistently positive outlook on life, she was the true embodiment of “the Greatest Generation”. She fought Nazi occupation at the front as a courier for the resistance group AK as a child and teen. She graduated high school and trade school in Sandomierz, Poland and worked in product acquisition and distribution in Kielce and in Lublin, Poland before coming to the US. Here, she worked in several manufacturing companies including Atlantic Tool and retiring from Pratt & Whitney in 1992.
Hania was a strong beautiful spirit whose light will live on through her daughter Dorothy. Since the death of her beloved husband in 2004, they and their dogs were inseparable. Hania loved her family deeply and was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed travel while she was able, gardening, reading, cooking with her daughter and weekend outings to various parks and beaches. She loved the outdoors and taking long walks with generations of dogs, who were always considered a part of her family.
Hania and Dorothy would like to thank their dear friend and family doctor, Dr. Lucyna Kolakowska, for her steadfast support through this difficult time and superb medical treatment and advice. We also thank the staff at the Hospital of Central Connecticut for their gentle care and devotion as well as Dr. Heiko Schmitt and his staff at UCONN cardiology.
In accordance with her wishes, services will be private and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society or the ASPCA in honor of Hania’s love and concern for animals.
