

Annette “Netty” (Scamoni) Stankelis, 75, of New Britain, died Wednesday, March 16, 2016. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Donald Stankelis. Netty was born in New Britain and was daughter of the late John and Sylvia (Casella) Scamoni. She was a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School and was a retiree of Sears after 30 years of service. Netty and Don spent their retirement enjoying camping at their second home, the Hidden Acres Family Campground and playing cards with “The Card Club” every Thursday night. Netty greatly enjoyed the friendships she developed at the New Britain YMCA with the women of the Red Hat Society and working the polling stations during elections.
Netty is also survived by her sister, Justine and brother in law, Gerald Brophy of Clifton Park, N.Y., brothers and sisters in law: Anthony and Ann Stankelis of Hebron, John and Rosalie Stankelis of Collinsville, Peter and Marcy Stankelis of Middlefield and Robert and Barbara Stankelis of Myrtle Beach, SC and many, many loving nieces and nephews who adored their Aunt Netty.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 21, 2016 at 9:00am for a brief gathering at New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain followed by her funeral liturgy at 10am in St. Jerome Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation hours will be held Sunday, March 20, 2016 from 4-8pm at the funeral home. For directions or online messages, please visit www.newbritainsagarino.com.
