Anthony Francis Fuschillo, 69, died suddenly at home in Oakland, CA, on Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Anthony was born in New Britain, CT, October 4, 1942, son of Frank and Josephine (Fazzino) Fuschillo. He attended schools in New Britain and graduated from New Britain Senior High School in the class of 1960. He worked as a hair stylist in New Britain for several years before moving to California.
He owned the Ambassador II Salon in Castro Valley, CA, for 10 years before opening Anthony's- A Beauty Salon in Oakland, which he operated until his death. Clients and employees became dear friends and fellow adventures in life with Anthony and he will be greatly missed in the community.
He met his partner Jason Bishop in 1974. For 38 years they shared life, a home, a passion for entertaining with Anthony's love of cooking and introducing friends to elaborate Italian Christmas feasts. They also found joy in maintaining a large and always-evolving garden along the banks of Indian Creek in Oakland's Trestle Glen.
In New Britain, he is survived by his beloved aunts, Millie Tora and Angie Alteri and his dear aunt Matilda Fuschillo. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his aunts, Zena Iskra of New Britain and his adored godmother Sophie Silverio of Baltic, CT, as well as numerous other aunts and uncles. In celebration and crisis, or in just sharing moments of every day, the telephone from California was Anthony's constant direct line to his loving family and his countless precious cousins and friends across the land. His yearly visits were his joy, and his boundless love of family was always returned in full measure. He will be profoundly missed on both sides of the country.
Honoring Anthony’s wishes, there will be a Memorial Mass Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at 11:00am in St. Ann Church, New Britain. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. For directions or to express an online condolence, please see attached links.
