Arthur was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, engineer, veteran, entrepreneur, and lifelong Boston Red Sox fan. The first in his family to attend college, he earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Yale University and a master's degree in engineering from the University of Connecticut. He proudly served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers Reserve from 1957 to 1963, receiving an honorable discharge.
In 1967, Arthur married the love of his life, Donna, and that same year founded his own civil engineering firm, which he operated for many years. Together they designed and built their family home in Farmington, Connecticut, where they raised their three children. Arthur had a passion for engineering, water and downhill skiing, and good food. He was an avid reader, lifelong learner, and cherished every opportunity to spend time with his family.
Arthur was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna. Following her passing, he was grateful to find love with Alice Deschaine, whose companionship brought joy to his later years.
Arthur is survived by his children: Arthur Vendola, MD (married to Anne Vendola, MBA), of Ann Arbor, MI, Keith Vendola, MD, MBA (married to Catherine Vendola, MA, LCGC), of Half Moon Bay, CA, and Mary-Grace Tavor, MPH (married to Roi Tavor, Lic, iur, LLM, Law), of Zurich, Switzerland; nine beloved grandchildren: Kalea, Finn, and Ainsley Vendola; Nathan, Andrew, and Luke Vendola; and Zev, Sophia, and Ari Tavor.
Funeral services will begin Thursday, August 6, at 9:15 at New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 11:00 at St. Matthew Church, 120 Church Ave., Forestville. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, August 5, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
