Boguslaw Grzymala

Bogusław Grzymała was the kind of man who could walk into a home improvement project, take one look at what needed to be done, and somehow already know the answer. Funny, stubborn, generous, hardworking, and always determined to do things his own way, Bogusław, known as “Bogie” to many of his American friends, “Bogdan” to his Polish friends, and “Boguś” to those closest to him, built a life defined by hard work, family, friendship, and an extraordinary willingness to lend a hand.

Bogusław, 59, of New Britain, Connecticut, died peacefully in his sleep on August 20, 2026.

He was born on February 1, 1967, in Dobrylas, Poland, to Anna and Stanisław Grzymała. He grew up in Piasutno Żelazne, where he spent much of his childhood working alongside his father on the family farm. Those early years helped shape the work ethic, resourcefulness, and practical knowledge that would stay with him throughout his life.

In the late 1990s, Bogusław left Poland and came to the United States on his own in pursuit of the American Dream and, above all, the hope of creating a better future for his children. For several years, he worked multiple jobs while continuing to support his family back in Poland before they were reunited in the United States.

Bogusław eventually built a long career as a Tool and Die Maker at Budney Aerospace & Overhaul, where he worked for more than 25 years. His skill with his hands extended far beyond his profession. His knowledge of construction and home improvement seemed nearly endless, and friends and family regularly relied on him when something needed to be repaired, remodeled, rebuilt, or simply figured out. He rarely did things the easy way, or necessarily the way anyone else suggested, but he usually had his own plan.

That knowledge was perhaps best displayed in the first home he purchased in New Britain, which he completely renovated from top to bottom. For Bogusław, there was always another project to tackle, another problem to solve, or another favor to trade with a friend. Helping one another was simply part of life.

Despite his hardworking nature, Bogusław never took himself too seriously. He was a genuinely goofy person who loved cracking jokes and making the people around him laugh. He was also quietly generous in ways that became unmistakably his own. He always seemed to have candy ready to hand out, and he had a habit of unexpectedly giving people things he thought they might need, not because they asked, but because he noticed.

Some of his happiest days were spent on the water. Bogusław loved taking charter fishing trips out of Niantic aboard the Dot-E-Dee with some of his closest friends. He especially loved landing large striped bass, proudly showing off the day’s catch while, inevitably, cracking jokes along the way.

Above everything else, Bogusław worked for his family. He shared three children with Ewa Grzymała: Lidia, Joanna, and Thomas Grzymała. His decision to leave Poland, endure years of hard work and separation, and establish a new life in the United States was driven by his desire to give his children opportunities he believed they deserved. Each of his children went on to build successful lives of their own, accomplishments made possible in no small part by the foundation their father worked so hard to provide.

Bogusław is survived by his children, Lidia Grzymała and her boyfriend Robert DeVito, Joanna Grzymała and her fiancé Jason Roman, and Thomas Grzymała and his fiancée Mackenzie Worley; the mother of his children, Ewa Grzymała; as well as his sister and brother in Poland and many friends and extended family members both in the United States and Poland.

He was predeceased by his parents, Anna and Stanisław Grzymała.

Bogusław’s life was not one measured simply by the things he built, repaired, or accomplished, but by the people who knew they could call him when they needed help, by the laughter he brought into a room, and by the opportunities he created for the family he loved.

He came to America chasing a better life for his children. In the lives they have built, in the home he made his own, in the friendships he formed, and in the countless things he fixed along the way, it is clear that he found it.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 4, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at New Britain Memorial & Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave, New Britain, CT 06053. A service celebrating Bogusław’s life will be officiated by Rev. Dariusz Gosciniak at 5:00 PM. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend, share memories, and celebrate Bogusław’s life together.
