Crystal Ann Mathena, 36, of New Britain, CT, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, March 19, 2019. Born on August 12, 1982 in New Britain, CT to Shirley R Bloethe and Mark Mathena. She studied at Mooreland Hill School, Watkinson School and graduated from Northeastern University. Crystal was loving, protective, strong-willed, feisty and she always spoke her mind. She always lit up the room with her beautiful blue eyes, vibrant smile and sense of humor even while dealing with her internal struggles. We will miss her every day for the rest of our lives. Her most beloved moment was the birth of her daughter Sophie Ann, her greatest treasure and blessing. When her daughter was born she stated, “An angel entered my life through my body and my life was forever changed; I became a blessed mother that day of a beautiful, gorgeous, baby girl.” Crystal was truly grateful for the blessings of a loving family in her life. We are grateful to have her forever in our hearts. In addition to her parents and daughter, she is survived by her fiance' Jesse Mathers. She will be dearly missed by her brother Hunter Mathena, wife Kelly and nephew Hunter James; her sister Stacy Mathena, partner Kevin Shuler and niece Mina Ruth; her brother Nick Mathena, partner Crystal and nephews Kyle and Logan; and her brother Mark Mathena and partner Sarah Daglis. Her cherished maternal grandmother Oma, Ruth H. Bloethe; step-mother Sandra Mathena; aunts, Charleen Bloethe Abely and husband Brian, Heleen Bloethe and husband Kevin Cox, Lynn Mathena and husband Jim Harrington, and uncle, William Bloethe and wife Marlin, and Daniel Mathena. Many cousins; Katie, Bill, and Ellie Bloethe, Kamlin, Kayleen, and Kanyon Cox, Sasha Abely and Charlie Bloethe. Lee Mathena, Jeff Mathena, Briana Clark, and Morgan Pappalardo. Her Great Aunt and Uncle Ulrich and Ursula Schaupp. Crystal was predeceased by her Opa, William E. Bloethe and beloved cousin, Colter Joseph Abely, her paternal grandparents Stella and Charles Mathena and her best friend, Monique Colletti. A Memorial Gathering will be held Sunday, from 1 to 3pm in the New Britain Memorial-Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain., with a funeral home service to take place at 1:30pm.
