Darlene Julie Goodine Costello joined her heavenly family on September 10, 2011. She was surrounded by her loving family after a valiant fight with diabetes and its devastating complications. She was born on December 20, 1935 to the late Julie Byrnes Goodine and the late Franklin “Murray” Goodine. She was the loving matriarch of her family. She was a devoted mother of four children and their spouses: daughter, Patricia Fusaro and husband Peter of Warrensburg, MO; son, Garrett Costello and wife Cindy of Southington, CT; daughter, Erin Costello and son John Costello of New Britain, CT. She was a loving daughter to "Murray" and Julie Goodine who predeceased her, and Step Daughter to Therese Goodine of Newington, CT. She was a dearly loved sister of David Goodine and wife Ursula of Medford, MA; and Marie Roman and husband Alex of West Hartford, CT.
She left a legacy of hope for the future in her eight grandchildren (Peter Fusaro, Philip Fusaro, Anthony Fusaro, Nicole Buesing, Dorothy Pavloski, William Pavloski, Garrett Costello, John Costello and Shara Walter) and 17 great grandchildren (Katelyn, Stephanie, Madison, Rylie, Tayler, Gavin, Olivia, Kaylee, Bryan, Ariana, Peter, Abigail, Kyla, Samantha, Briana, Benjamin, and Jackson). She also was a dearly loved “auntie” to David, Jeff, Nelmarie, Yuneli, Joseph, and Lauren.
Darlene graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1953 and then Morse College of Business. She was an accomplished dancer and had it not been for her petite height, she was on the road to being a famed “Rockette.” She never looked back when doors were closed and spent the rest of her life “dancing” and opening up new opportunities to create beauty, fun and new adventures. Darlene was a “world traveler” in her profession as a travel agent. She shared her love for exotic worlds with many of her friends and family.
She was also a beloved friend to all those she encountered throughout her life and made all who met her smile with her own quirky sense of humor. She never let adversity slow her down. Until the end she continued her practical jokes and provided much “comic relief” to all. No matter what she always had the last word that made all smile.
While her physical presence will be missed by all who have known her, the essence and spirit of her being will always remain with those she has touched and will continue in the stories and memories of generations to come. We love you, we know you are safe in the hands of the Lord and those loved ones who have joined the “angels” in heaven, and that you are with the spirit of your “furry” companions, Josie, Skeeter and Tiger.
The family would like to thank Jan, Diane, Jennifer, and Katie from Masonicare Partners Hospice. Donations can be made in Darlene’s honor to Masonicare Partners Home Health and Hospice, 111 Founders Plaza, Suite 200, East Hartford, CT 06108, or a charity of their choice.
