

Eugene S. Ryba, 92, of New Britain, passed away on February 4, 2017. He was born in New Britain, a son of the late Antoni and Rozalia (Kot) Ryba and was a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 1942 and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at King’s Point, New York, class of 1945. He was very proud of this achievement and faithfully served his country from 1943-1945, as a Merchant Mariner, he attained the rank of Chief Engineer before his retiring in 1955, from Standard Oil. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in New Britain. Eugene was a Senior Safety Engineer at Traveler’s Insurance for 37 years. Eugene was very proud of his Polish heritage and that he survived when two of his ships were torpedoed causing him to abandon ship once.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Eleanor (Belis) Ryba. He is survived by his sons Christopher Ryba and his wife Lynda of New Britain, Steven Ryba of San Diego, CA and Jon Ryba and his wife Michelle of San Tan Valley, AZ, his daughter Regina Ryba of Garden Grove, CA, eleven grandchildren, Chris Ryba and his wife Allison, Lindsey Boller and her husband Scott, Casey Cartiera and her husband Tony, Stephanie Ryba, Kendra Lavin and her husband Matthew Tilker, Jesse Ryba and his wife Nicole, Travis, Elyse and Conor Biechele and Austin and Maddie Ryba and seven great-grandchildren and his loving home healthcare provider Jadwiga Chmura who provided wonderful care for the last four years. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brother Daniel Ryba, his sisters Cecilia Ryba, Irene Sherwill, Florence Kiejko, Wanda Kowalski and Gertrude Prince, his beloved son-in-law Joel Biechele, his daughter-in-law Joanne Lavin and his nephew Eugene S. Sherwill.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday February 11, 2017 at 10:30AM at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 1755 Stanley St., committal prayers will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery Chapel, Burritt St. both in New Britain. A visiting hour prior to the church service will be from 9AM-10AM, at the New Britain Memorial-Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain, CT 06053. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eugene’s name to The School Sisters of Notre Dame, Development Office, 345 Belden Hill Road, Wilton, CT 06897.
