Frances V. (Melle) Salvio, 99, widow of Laurino J. Salvio, of New Britain, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. She was born in Waterbury, CT, daughter to the late Giacomo and Angela (Chiaramida) Melle. She grew up in Lawrence, MA.
Fran, as she was known to friends, served in the US Army, active duty, as a RN 1st Lieutenant, in England treating wounded soldiers and POW’s. She moved to New Britain after marrying Larry in the 1955. Most of her nursing career in New Britain was working in the NB Public Health Dept. and as a school nurse. Before retiring, she served as the only RN at NBHS, where there are now multiple nurses.
Frances was a devout parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church where she was a member of the Ladies Guild for many years. She was also a duck pin bowler. She is remembered for being a great cook, especially for her raviolis at holidays and pies in the summer and for her love of music, especially opera.
She is survived and will be dearly missed by a son, Justin Salvio and Christina of Glastonbury, daughter, Regina Williams and David of Farmington, brother-in-law: Arthur Passaretti of Houston, TX, two grandchildren: Maya C. Salvio and Noah C. Salvio, and by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 19, 2019 from 4-7pm at New Britain Memorial & Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain. Funeral services will begin Monday, May 20, 2019 at 8:30am at the funeral home for a brief gathering, followed by her funeral liturgy at 9:30am in St. Francis of Assisi Church.
